Assisted hatching?

We are preparing for a donor FET soon and have six 5-day blasts to work with. The donating couple conceived twins from their first IVF when they transferred two. The donating couple was 35 years old when they completed the cycle. I am 31 years old. Our last cycle we transferred two 3-day with assisted hatching and ended up with a chemical. My question is...should we do assisted hatching? Should we be concerned about birth defects considering the age of the donating couple? Would you advise transferring two or three? The reason I ask is because last time we transferred two "good" embryos and did not get pregnant.

You should leave the decision about assisted hatching to your embryologist.  His/her judgement will be based on whether the zona pellucida has adequately thinned, already.  As far as " birth defects", you may want to have a pregnancy tested for chromosome count.  There are some good screening tests, today, to determine if the pregnancy is at increased risk.
Good luck.
