I have just been informed that an Anti-Rho antibody was detected in my prenatal panel b/w. My doctor said that it was a low titer. I am being retested on Monday. I called my doctor back to discuss it but he is gone for the day and I am very nervous.
My blood type is O neg. and I did receive a shot of Rhogam during my 6th week of pregnancy.
Can you please provide me with some information regarding this antibody? Can this harm my pregnancy?
It is an antibody to the Rh factor, found on the red blood cells of people who are Rh positive. Since this antibody crosses the placenta, it is possible for it to attack red blood cells of an Rh positive pregnancy. That is why you were given Rhogam. Youe OB will have to monitor your pregnancy for signs of a problem, and determine the best treatment to protect the pregnancy, if it is Rh positive. Good luck.
