Please educate me!! My DIL @ 7 mon preg was DX with a DVT in her thigh. Further testing ind a blood disorder, factor 5. She was started on Loveno/Heparin, placed on bedrest. Gave birth to an apparently healthy boy 7.5 with an apgar of 9 on sat. 5/14. But he then passed this am 5/16 (cause unknown). I do not believe they tested him for this but I believe he also had the disorder. Was maintain in utero via mom's anticoagulation but developed clots postnatally one of which caused his most untimely demise. Please help, any info or advise will be appreciated.

Nana, I am so sorry for your loss. Your family must be terribly heartbroken. I can not imagine the pain you must be feeling. Im sorry but can not shed any light on your DIL's condition. It is very understandable that you are searching for reasons....Have you spoken to the doctors????

I pray you and your family finds the strength to get through this very hard time. Im sure your little grandson is the brightest start in the sky....

Sorry for your loss. The postmortum tests will help tell what happen to the poor baby. Take care.

I wish you were right but the death certificate states cardiac arrest 2* resperatory failure without reference to what caused the resperatory failure. The family is trying to find an independent pathologist in our area but so far no luck. It seems the medical community doesn't wish to get involved after the fact. I personnally believe the baby inherited the cond or something similar, developed bloods clots and shot a pulmonary embolism. Any advice or opinions would be appreciated. Nana

That would be so frustrating to read. The report basically means the baby had trouble breathing and then had cardiac arrest. Unless there was some physical defect on autopsy they will not know why the baby had trouble breathing. SIDS babies have no obvious reasons why they die. A pulmonary embolism would show up in autopsy. Did they do one? I know its morbid, sorry, its the nurse in me. Just curious and very sad about the loss.

Nurse to nurse; be as morbid as u need be, I can deal w/ it. What I need though is answers and so far we are not getting them. Yes an autopsy was done but we have not yet received the PAD. They have 3 days for that report but I hope to get it soon. If that doesn't satisfy me they have 60 days for the FAD. Until I know for sure, I will be driven mad.

Nana - Please let us know what you find out. I hope you get your answer. I hated not knowing what happened to my baby also. They still do not know what happened to it. Doc said a "bad baby"
