1st IVF no success

Hi,
My hubby and I have been married for 6 years and have been ttc for 3. We have done clomid which worked but resulted in mc 3 years ago and since have tried gonal-f and repronex for IUI. We were only able to do 1 IUI these last 12 months because I overstimulated and had well over 10 mature follicles all but the 1 time. We just did our 1st round of IVF, they retrieved 9 eggs, 8 of which fertilized and they implanted 2 on the 4th of July. I had a + preg test but my HCG was only 13 and 48hrs later it dropped to a negative. I also did acupunture along with the IVF cycle, which I really enjoyed! Now I'm just at a loss of what we should do now??? Any suggestions?

Give it another go! And dont wait! Dont hesitate! The docs know your body better and can gauge your bodys reaction better, so dont give up!

I had OHSS on my first cycle and had to coast for 5 days, I was hurt when it was negative. But my nurse, who had nothing to gain really told me not to wait, get back in the office and start again on the BCP, i ran to the pharmacy! Its true! And my body was right on track every time I went in for monitoring!
We did slow and steady with the meds, and I went almost 20 days until the follicles were ready, but when they were ready, I had almost 24! 19 fertilized and on day three for transfer, we still had 12 good quality to choose from. They let them grow in the lab and three made it to blastocyst!

I am pregnant with triplets! Joy beyond belief! I am 17 weeks along and happier than ever!

Good luck! Dont get down. Dont be sad. Your body was just getting prepared for the real deal! Try again!
Prayers for you!

Thank you!I would love to try again right away but I have no idea where to come up with the $ for it.
On our first cycle none of the remaining embyos made it to the point that they could freeze them although 2 did make it to blastocysts, and the 2 that they implanted were fair quality. I only did meds (Menopur/bravelle) for 1 week and they said I was ready to go. Do you think going slow with the meds got yours to a better quality and quantity?
I'm so happy for that things worked out for you! And TRIPLETS....WOW!!!
I'll keep praying that everything continues to go well for you!
Thank you

I think going slow helped the eggs grow and my estrodiol never reached more than 2500. The eggs dont know how long they have been in there and slow and steady will still win the race.

As far as the money. We spent almost 30K because after the first failed cycle, we had to use investments to purchase a package plan of 3 cycles. Never needed the last remaining two. But It relieved stress off of me, that I still had two more tries in case that one did not work either. Its so worth the money. We can get that back.

Sounds strange you were only on meds one week. My first cycle was 15 days, second was almost 20 days!
My clinic told me 12 days minimum, because keeping with normal ovulation, eggs need the minimum of what 14 days?

You are also not limited to that clinic. But if you decide to stay there, ask for your levels every day, ask for the follicle size daily. Keep on top of it and look at other IVF calendars to see what their sample schedules are like, I believe 2 wks is the minimum you need to stimulate.

I wish you the best!

I live in SW MN and the clinic I'm going to is 1hr and 45min away and that's the closest one around. They don't offer any package deals but I am really thinking about looking into going to the twin cities which is 3hrs away but atleast they offer package deals and I do think I would feel about about being able to get the $ back if things don't work out.

What meds were you on and what were the doses? I'm just crurious to know what they could do so that I don't stimulate as rapidly. I was on 10u of lupron, 150u of bravelle every am, and 150u of menopur every pm.
I started the lupron on 6/10 and the other meds on 6/22. They did an ULS on 6/27 and said I was ready to go and we did the ER on 6/29. So it went extremely fast!

Thanks for all the info. This is making me feel better already and I really think that when we try again that I will make sure that they try to have me stimulate slower so things can mature better! I kinda think that that was maybe the issue we had this time around!

THANK YOU!!!!!!

Paulz -
I was born in Waconia and lived in Golden Valley most of my childhood. So nice to meet a fellow Minnesotian!
I think the drive would suck, but when you have to go in to the clinic for monitoring everyday near the end right before you do the trigger shot, a hotel is possible.

My meds were 10 of lupron for 2 wks, then 5 units until the trigger shot. After the two wks I was on Menopur and gonal-f every night. Menopur was 75 units powder mixed with 150 gonal-f. That was for like I said 16 days, then I had my trigger shot, 10,000 HCG and 35 hours later I was in for retrieval (harvesting)

Dont let them rush you, make them tell you the dimensions of the follies, they ought to be 18-20 for maturity.

If you come over to the IVF Anyone? board there are about 9 women who are regulars to this site who have been through this and 3 who are on stims now preparing for their egg harvesting.

If you have a pkg deal there is so much less stress knowing there is either a refund or a baby! The money is tough to come up with I know. We are not rich! And now with triplets wont even be debt free for a lonnnng time! But I would rather live happy than wealthy.

There are loans and credit cards, and most clinics offer their own financing through Capital One. I really wish you luck. Keep in touch on here or come on over to the IVF anyone? board! There are so many great ladies there to support you too!

Hi Paulz- I don't mean to but in but my first IVF was not successful either. We then did a frozen cycle that failed and are trying again with a fresh (with a new dr. and whole new protocol). I have heard that if you do not stim for at least 10 days the eggs may not be good quality. So slow is probably better! I wish you the best of luck and like Jenny said feel free to join us on the other thread (IVF anyone?).

[quote] Hi, Congrats on your pregnancy!
I had a question for you, my husband and I had a 1st IVF Fresh Transfer end in M/C. We ended up with 14 embies to freeze. We are now going back to do a 2nd time hoping this one will take. Im taking estrace and thats all. DO frozen take better than fresh?
