Antiphospholipic Syndrome - Flu Shot

Hi everyone,

Have any one here on this board had the flu shot while with the antibody disorder?

I am 11.5 weeks from IVF with antiphospholipic syndrome. I am considering getting a flu shot but don't feel sure about how my system is going to react to the flu shot.

As a lot of us know, two weeks after the shot, our body produces antibody to fight the flu virus. Since the people with antibody disorder already tend to produce more antibody, would the flu shot harm the baby?

Any input would be highly appreciated!!

Michelle,

How far along are you in your pregnancy?
Have you got flu shot before this time?
What kind of autoimmune issue do you have?

I would greatly appreciate if you provide this information to me as I have been struggling with this decision for over a month.

Thanks a lot and take care!

Hi Jenny:
I got my flu shot at my 10 week mark of pregnancy. (I am now almost 12 weeks with twins) I was leaving for Italy and I am sure some of the worry was the enclosed plane ride with ill people.

I had not side effects from the shot, in fact, I have been getting them for the past 6 years and this was the first flu shot that I ever got that did not even hurt! The Dr. said the syrum is thinner now..????

I don;t have an autoimmune problem, but my hubby has cancer and they always like him ot have one and being pregnant I was told that that makes me "high risk" and a priority for the shot. (I don;t know if I am high risk due to being prego or if I am high risk due to twins???)

I hope this helps. YOu really should ask your Dr. and see how they feel about it. My Dr. was pretty pushy about me getting mine.

Let me know if I can be of anymore help. :)

Michelle,

Thanks. How come you are in this board if you don't have autoimmune issue? I am just curious because everyone on this board seems like to on Lovenox treatment for autoimmune disorders.

I were like you and did not have autoimmue issue, I would take flu shot without thinking about it either.

Thanks agin for your response.

This board is not for only autoimmuse issues, This board is for women that have struggled with fertility and had troubles getting pregnate like myself....I could not get pg due to a dying husband and spent over $60,000 trying over a 5 year term....

WOW....you did a great job at making me feel unwelcome with your 12 posts and my138!

Thanks Jenny..... good luck with your DISORDER.

Jenny - Everyone on this board has had a problem getting pregnant for one reason or another not just because of an immune deficiency...I believe that Michelle was just trying to help you with the decision on a flu shot...This website is called Shared Journey, Your path to fertility...NOt Shared Journey your path to fertility from an immmune deficiency...Apparently you have not been on the board long enough to have reviewed a lot of women's journeys to mother hood...Not everyon on here is on whatever it is called Levonex...I have not even heard that mentioned a lot...Hope your pregnancy goes well...Talk to you later.

Michelle,

Sorry, my confusion. I posted two separate messages on the board about flu shot. This one you responded to was a new thread I created, the other one I posted on a thread called "Lovenox and Pregnancy" for those women who have autoimmune issues.

I mistakenly thought you response was from the autoimmune thread and that was why I was just curious about how come you ended up in that threat.

I by no mean intended to be offensive and please do not take it that way. I greatly appreciate for your response and information.

Jenny
