Switching from Prog. shots to Prometrium pills

Dr Jacobs,
I wrote about welts from prog. shots a few days ago. As it turns out, what I am taking has the sesame base, ( I guess I'm ultra senstivie)! My doctor's plan is to wean me off of shots and switch me slowly to Prometrium pills by reducing the shot amount and increasing the Prometrium dose slowly. I'll be having my progesterone levels checked every few days to make sure it is working. His reasoning behind this is that he doesn't want me to develop a more severe reaction to the prog. in oil.

I do have a question, though: My progesterone levels are naturally very strong, which I learned going through IUI's. When they would check my levels right after ovulation, they were always up around 30 without any supplementation. So why did they put me on progesterone shots with the IVF protocol even though my levels are already normal??

I'd appreciate understanding the reasoning behind this.

When we do the egg retrieval for IVF, we also remove a lot of the cells which secrete progesterone and estrogem. To be on the safe side, we provide a supplement.
