Subchoronic Bleed

Dr. Jacobs,

Can you please provide some information regarding subchoronic bleeds during pregnancy? One was discovered during my 6 week u/s, it was only 1 cm and was gone in one day. I am now 9 weeks along and another small bleed was detected. I did have light bleeding for a couple days and now it has stopped. I will have a follow up u/s in a couple days to confirm.

Is it likely that I will continue to get these bleeds throughout my pregnancy? Can they threaten the pregnancy? Are they common?

Any information you can provide is appreciated.

Thank you in advance.

Laura

Bleeding under the placenta (subchorionic bleeds) are not uncommon. They cause a great deal of concern, but frequenly resolve, and the pregnancy will be normal. I do not know how to tell you what to expect. You may, or may not have future small bleeds.
Good luck.
