short cervix questions

Dr. Jacobs....

I have heard different opinions on what is considered a short cervix. Some say anything below 3cm while others say anything below 2.5cm. At 19w 4d my cervix measured 2.9cm via abdominal ultrasound. My doctor was not concerned and said he doesn't become concerned until 2cm. What do you consider a short cervix and should I be concerned?

Also, I have heard that a full bladder or need for a bowel movement will cause a shortened cervical measurement. Is this true?

GOD BLESS!!!

Probably a more reliable way to identify an incompetant cervix is to use ultrasound to look at the shape of the internal end of the cervical canal. It should be "U" shaped, not "V" shaped.
Good luck.
