question regarding progesterone supplements

Hello. I have a quick question regarding progesterone supplements.

I am 5 1/2 weeks pregnant (acheived via IVF, We transferred 3 blastocytes on 8/18). My HCG levels were measured 3 times and each time were raising appropriately. My u/s is scheduled for next Thursday. I am taking 2ml of prog in oil via an intramuscular injection each evening. How long do you have your pts taking prog supplements? I just want to compare with my plan. I am worried that once I discontinue the injections something bad will happen. I am not scheduled to d/c for some time, but just want to know your opinion of when you have your pts d/s this.

Thanks in advance.

Normally the placenta takes over production of progesterone at about 8 to 10 weeks of pregnancy. That would be 6 to 8 weeks after egg retrieval. I do check progesterone levels at that time, when my patient has not had a progesteron injection for about 48 hours. If it is at least 20 ng/ml, the placenta is doing its job.
Congratulations!
