Polyps

Hello Dr Jacobs,
I had my ultrasound today for my work up for an unmedicated cycle of IUI (this was for my second attempt). Like last time the sonographer found a 16mm x 11mm polyp at the fundus of my uterus.
Would something like this prevent a pregnancy from occuring and carrying to term?
Also what can be done to treat the polyp?
THank you so much for your time.

We have inadequate data, but concerns that polyps may interfere with embryo implantation. I remove them as a day surgery procedure, using a hysteroscope. Also, I do not do unmedicated IUI. The pregnancy rates are too low, about the same as no treatment at all.
Good luck.

Hello Dr Jacobs,
Thank you so much for your reply regarding polyps.
At your clinic women with these size polyps, would you recommend they be removed to improve the success of IVF?
Thank you so much for your time.

Even though I do not have solid evidence that polyps impair embryo implatation, I routinely remove them. Perhaps I am too much of a perfectionist, but I would rather leave nothing to chance. I try to have all parameters as good as I can get them prior to starting an IVF stimulation.
Good luck.
