IVF - Unicornuate Uterus

Dear Dr. Jacobs,

I am 34 and have been diagnosed with a Unicornuate Uterus. I had a natural pregnany at age 25. Hearbeat stopped at 14 weeks.

Ectopic pregnancy in March '05 treated with Metheltrexate. Diagnosed with UU in Oct. '06. First IVF cycle ended in March '06 with a ruptured ectopic. Removed the previously functional tube and the rudimentary horn on the other side. Was told that I have 70% of a normal uterus and should be able to sustain a pregnancy.

I have since completed two rounds of IVF with standard protocols that were negative. (Transfered two embrios IVF #1, and 4 embrios in IVF#2 )

My Dr. says that I have great embrios (usually produce 4 high grade), great lining--all the necessary ingredients for a resulting pregnancy and the negatives are a simple matter of statistics. He does not feel that assisted hatching is necessary.

Should I insist on assisted hatching or should I have one more cycle without it? (My insurance will pay for 2 more rounds)

Thank you for your help!

There is a great deal more to embryo implantation than assisted hatching. I have no way of knowing why your IVF cycles have not succeded, but I do not know that assisted hatching would make a difference.
Good luck.
