High E2

Hi Dr Jacobs, I'm in the process of going through 3rd IVF with new donor eggs. They screened the donor a month ago and said everything looked good. Then they put the her on Lupron. The plan is to have her start stim on 1/13 but unfortunately, it postponed due to high E2. Everything is pushed back by 2 weeks and she may start stim on the 26th. Is it common to have elevated E2 while on Lupron? Will it have an affect on the quality of eggs if her E2 is under control prior to IVF? Did you have patients go through like this before? What's the outcome?

The first thing Lupron does is cause the pituitary gland to dump all the FSH and LH it has stored. This so called flare effect typically lasts 4 to 5 days, before the estrogen response to the surge of FSH declines. Maybe it took a bit longer for your donor to clear all of her estrogen.
Good luck.
