Gonal F dose

Can you explain how high doses of FSH are beneficial to your patients? I have a cycle day 3 FSH of 9.8, but my RE never has me take more than 3 ampules of Gonal F per day, whereas I know that many RE's start patients on 5-7 ampules per day. My RE's reason is that testing after the first few days of stims always shows that my FSH level is >15 (WHILE ON STIMS), and therefore my body would not even use the additional ampules of FSH. Do you agree with this theory? Thanks!

There are data in the literature that increasing the FSH dose beyond 600 units a day does not increase pregnancy rates. Indeed, if your ovaries do not respond to 600 units a day, the increased dose is associated with a decreased pregnancy rate. In all probability the ovaries that do not respond have fewer eggs of lesser quality. The dose of FSH also depends on whether you are doing ovulation induction or IVF.
Good luck.
