FSH Question

HI Dr Jacobs,My friend has no infertility problems and has 3 children and is 29 yrs old. She is worried though , Because her last 4 cycles before her period comes, She has been having Hot Flashes,I told her to go see a Doctor and get her FSH level checked out to see what it is, Because she said her 25yr old sister has diminished ovarian reserve and her sisters FHS level is 12.3 What would you consider a NORMAL FSH level would be, if a woman is 29yrs old? Thank you.

The lab I use has as their upper limit of normal for a pre-menopausal womann 15 Iu/L. I think anything between 10Iu/L and 15Iu/L as borderline. However, that is not the whole story. There are women who have adequate ovarian reserve (enough eggs and follicles) who have an abnormal receptor for FSH and have high FSH levels, normally. They do require higher doses of FSH to stimulate their ovaries.
