Dr. Jacobs, I had my first u/s done today after my BFP on Feb. 6th. It wasn't scheduled until next Friday but the doctor I am seeing in the ob/gyn did his internship at my infertility clinic and wanted to check on the status of the pregnancy as a precaution. When he performed the ultrasound he definately saw 1 gestational sac and was pretty sure he saw a second, but one was larger than the other, is that common? He said we will still do the u/s next Friday and he will be able to tell more. I am 5 weeks 5 days pregnant today. Is it normal for one to be larger than the other?

Five weeks of pregnancy is a bit too early to do an ultrasound. You can probably see gestational sac(s), but they will be quite small, and difficult to measure acurately. Also, it is too early to see a fetal pole, lete alone a fetal heart. I do not do an ultrasound until greater than 6 weeks, when you can actually see something you can rely on. Good luck.
