Dexamethasone, ANA and early pregnancy...

Dear Dr Jacobs,

I am currently 7 weeks pregnant from our 4th ICSI cycle, and am still taking daily clexane shots, gestone, 5mg of dexamethasone, as well as progynova and metformin.

I am ANA+ and this was discovered after my 3rd ICSI failure when I developed swellings and painful joints. It was this that led to me having the Chicago tests done, where blood clotting problems were also uncovered.

In the early hours of this morning I woke up with terrible pains in my knee joints and I'm really worried that it's being caused by ANA. Can this happen with me taking dexamethasone? I've also been getting a lot of hand and foot cramps (keep seizing up) since testing positive.

Just ao worried that my being ANA+ will adversely affect the pregnancy after taking so long to get to this point.

Many thanks,

Nat :)

Dexamethasone is a steroid and potent anti inflamatory. It is unlikely that it is the dexamethasone which caused your knee pain.
Good luck.
