Abandonment of Follicles?

Dear Dr. Jacobs:
The morning before evening of trigger (10,000 IU), had 9 follicles sized:
3 x 20
2 x 18
1 X 17
2 x 16
1 x13
I understand follicles continue to grow for 34-36 hours after trigger. Upon retrieval, 8 were identified as "mature". Assuming the one at 13 didn't mature satisfactorialy in the interceeding 36 hours. Of the 8 that were marked as "mature", only 5 were aspirated. 3 were abandoned during retrieval. I was SHOCKED when I awoke from the sedation. In my previous 3 IVFs, 3 different physicians (group practice) had retrieved all follicles as documented.
What would cause abandonment? Thanks much. Jane

I am afraid I cannot answer that question for you. You really need to ask the physician who did your retrieval. Only he/she knows what judgement issues were involved.
