Hi everyone! I am 26 years old , 2 years ago I had a miscarriage . I ended up having a clot in my leg that went to my lung. For the past 2 years i have been taking coumadin for a blood clotting disorder called aps witch is antiphosphlipid antibody (sticky blood). I want to try to have another baby but i am scared of another clot or mis.

Well this weekend we got some positive reinforcement that really made this seem worth it! All the bad past and all the rough present seemed so trivial when the ultrasound machine started and we took our first look at her face.

One look at that and I know we have the strength to make it 3 more months.

I was just curious to why I was on such a high dosage of lovenox. My doctor put me on 100 mg twice a day cause she knew we were trying to get pregnant. I had a miscarriage last week and I was 7 weeks pregnant. Wounder if it had anything to do with the lovenox. When I started bleeding a little bit my doctor was going to put me on heprin but it was to late. Was just curious if anyone else has had miscarriages when they were on lovenox and if they can give me any helpful answers.

Wow…what disorder do you have that calls for that much lovenox? That is more then anyone on this site has ever taken (I think)

Dpete-
that is a tough one to decide on--I have never had any side effects to the lovenox other than the usual ( brusing & some burning with the injection) I guess the question is, can you live w/the side effects now-- maybe they will decrease as you use the lovenox more. i honestly don't know what i'd do either. it would have to be pretty bad for me to stop taking it.
I started lovenox a few days after i ovulated ( before i even knew i was pregnant)
on another side note-no, they never told me anything about the blighted ovum- i think as someone else said, it's one of the most common types of m/c- nothing formed & no reason or rhyme. Until i reached about 12 weeks ( even after 2-3 ultrasounds) i couldn't relax... i still get nervous sometimes... b/c i made it thru a couple 8 or 9 week ultrasounds & then m/carried around 10... so i don't worry as much since i'm 24 weeks but i do once and a while... I really wanted to make it thru the first screening tests, triple marker, and then the big ultrasound at 19 weeks... so those were my biggies.... every month it's something new unfortunately.

so i would decide if the side effects are that bad- then maybe stop- or see if there is any other options besides lovenox. i haven't heard of anyone miscarrying while on lovenox from this website- what dosage of lovenox are you on again?

I was just reading a paper on Lovenox's effect on blood sugar and cholesterol. According to the paper using it over a extended period lowers bloodsugar and reduces the amount of bad choloestoral. I was wondering if anyone has had any tests so far that goes along with it.

My wife just had her 26 week gloucose level check and she scored a 135, unfortunately for her that's 1 point over the cutoff they like to see. Now she has to do a 3 hour extended test to get a better reading. Stinky thing is that I read almost 25% of the women who get the first study done shows a false high and have to go through the grueling 3 hour version. Anyone else have to do it? My poor wife get's sick if she can't eat every few hours, I don't know how she is going to hang in there 12 without eating and drinking that aweful syrup they make you drink.

[/quote]Oh that happend to me too! It was horrible.

Ask if the lab has a table/bed she can lay down on. I would call ahead to make sure, if they do I would bring a couple of pillows from home one for her head and one for between her knees. See if she can try to sleep between draws. It was the toughest thing I've had to do. I have to eat or I get sick and dizzy. Another hint is to go right when the lab opens (6am) so she can get it over with.

It would be nice if you could go w/her to drive her home as well.

The picture of your baby is amazing! We have one like that too.

My husband and I have been through so much heart ache as well. You can only heal so much, but for all of us I think when we hold our bundles of joy the healing will continue.

Did your Dr. say when he wants your wife to stop lovenox? I have to at 37 weeks and am anxious about it.

Thanks
Sandy

PS My 3 hour test came back normal, after all that!!!

Ok so Dr's appointment went well today. I had stopped the lovenox on sat- the side effects were really really bad- too bad to deal with- I felt like I was having kidney issues along with fever that is never good when you are pregnant. So basically they are switching me to heprin but it will not be in until tomorrow. I hope a few days without it wont harm anything as long as I continue my baby asprin. Also I got to see a sac in the uterus that ruled out ectopic as per my history so that was exciting. I am 5 wks 1 day so it was a little early to see anything inside but the nurse said she saw the start of a yolk sac so I guess that is a good sign too again with my blighted ovom hystory. Blood work came back right on track at HCG level of 2945 and it sould have been arround 2820. Progesterone was 39! I am happy that things are actually going okay even to this point. I did have some light bleeding after the internal ultrasound but that has already seemed to be stopping.
How much folic acid is everyone taking?

I just have a quick question. what is approx the cost of lovenox? Is it very expensive ?

Gidd - January 23rd, 2007 12:36 PM

Yes its pretty expensive. When we first started it was about $60 for a box of 10 syringes. And that is with insurance. If the price seems unbearable to you call your health insurance, not your perscription plan, the one you use when you go to the Dr. They can get you the drugs mailed to you probably for free if you speak to the them. To put it frankly, they would ratehr foot the bill for your medicine then pay for your hospital stay should you develop a clot or PE. It's cheaper for them to not take the gamble and eat the money. We went through our insurance and got ours for free, you just need to be firm about it and call multiple times and they'll give in. It will save you 1000's of dollars.

meganm - January 23rd, 2007 5:02 PM

i'm so glad i found this site. i am 31 and have had two miscarriages in the past year. went to RE, had a laparoscopy (mild endometriosis) i really thought that was what was causing my miscarrages, but the dr. said i have a blood clotting issue and put me on baby aspirin and folic acid in addition to a multi-vitamin. he also gave me a prescription for lovenox (40mg) and told me to begin taking it when i got pregnant. stupidly i thought it was a pill so i was shocked when i filled the prescription and found out it was injections. i'm so bad with needles and i worry about everything so i'm really nervous and i am not even pregnant yet, but we are ttc again. did you all have your dr or nurse show you how to do the injections? i've been reading the posts, but i'm confused as to where i can give myself the injections. (well actually my husband said he would give them to me). any help is appreciated.

colie - January 23rd, 2007 9:35 PM

GIDD
Thankyou for the tip. I have a dr appt coming up in the next few weeks. When I go to this appt I am going to talk with her about becoming pregnant, after 2 years waiting I finally have the strength to try again. I have been on coumadin and my dr told me i would have to switch to lovenox before i tried to become pregnant. I am going to call the ins co although i hope becouse im not pregnant now that they wont refuse me.

jengrl - January 23rd, 2007 10:46 PM

What happens if you haven't been taking the lovenox as prescribed? I am supposed to take it every day, but I HATE it and my husband is miserable giving it to me. We have been doing it about every other day. Will that actually cause problems? After reading other posts I feel like a giant whiner and I know I need to suck it up and just do it. I just hope I haven't done any harm.
Jen

Bridget - January 24th, 2007 9:57 AM

Jen,

I would talk to your doctor about that. I would be afraid to skip a dosage since we are all on it for a reason.

Colie,

I have United Healthcare insurance and we pay 56 dollars for a month's supply of Lovenox. Not too expensive compared to other's - my doctor said without insurance it would cost us over 800 a month (that is for 40mg a day).

Just had our 16 week ultrasound last week and found out that we are having a girl!!!

julia c - January 24th, 2007 12:04 PM

Jen,
You should call your dr right away and talk to him. The way I understand it; a blood cell has a life span (I think it is like 60 or 90 days.. but I am not sure) the old cells die off and your body makes new ones. Lovenox doesn’t actually thin blood it removes a protein which causes clotting if you are not taking the medicine as prescribed you could be producing many cells with the ability to clot. 40 ml. is not enough to break up a clot or stop a clot once it has formed, it is a low dose that only helps to keep clots from forming. If nothing else if something happened you might blame your self or feel as if you could have done more even if it is not the case.
Julia
i do understand how you feel.

elvira - January 24th, 2007 2:18 PM

Hi all, I am so happy to have found this. I have one son who is almost 3. In the past year and a half I have had 8 m/c. It has been very devestating for me and my husband. Around October I started anti depressants (perscribed by my ob dr that would be ok if I got preg with them) then my husband got me a puppy for Christmas! I found out I was pregnant on Jan 15. I started lovenox 40 mg a day a few days later. I almost passed out on that first shot. I am the first in my Dr.s office but he is probably the best in the area. I am also on baby asprin (1 a day). My question has to do with after the baby is born. I want to breast feed. Is this possible using Lovenox? Has anyone done it? Also has anyone still miscarried after starting Lovenox? If so how long did you carry?
