there has got to be a reason why someone is on 2xs a day vs 1 x per day. i'm only doing 1 x- b/c after all the testing i did i really have no solid proof i should even be on it--- but my pregnancy is sustaining so i'll continue it. i think the 40 mg is the lowest dosage if you don't have any certain issues maybe.
i agree- sometimes the shots are painless & sometimes they do hurt. but it lasts 5 seconds so i guess i will deal with it too.

Hello all, I have been looking at the comments and have to say that this is very good support! This is my first time here. I too am on Lovenx and I am 2 months pregnant with my third one. I had a Pulmonary Embolism(blood clot in the lungs) and my doctor put me on 80 mg. I stopped my injections only after six months when I had the P.E and totally forgot Lovenox cause I thought I was done. When I went to the doc and he said I had to inject myself while I was pregnant I almost fainted! I thought it was the end of the world. That was until I found this post. I took my first injection today because this site gave ne alot of encourgement. Thanks alot. You all that have post has helped in so many ways. May God continue to bless each and every one of you and I will keep posting!! God bless.

Good morning ladies,

I did my first shot of Lovenox this morning and didn't really experience any pain/bleeding. I thought it was a heck of a lot better than doing the Heparin twice a day. My stomach is a mess because of that stuff, so I am relatively relieved to only have to do the Lovenox once a day.

Question for you all -- I have been on 81 mg baby aspirin with the Heparin. Now my doctor said it doesn't matter one way or the other if I take it or not (now that I am on Lovenox) and left the decision up to me. I have heard pros and cons of both being on and off baby aspirin and was hoping to hear some opinions? I wish my doctor could have given me a firm decision and am sort of bugged because she didn't...

My doctor told me to keep taking the aspirin every day. It is just another form of blood thinner and I guess I just figure the thinner the better. Anyways I just take it because my dr said so I guess if I had a choice I would still take it. It’s painless and it makes me feel like I am doing something.Briget I am glad your shot was painless. Did you give it to your self? I haven’t done that yet but my husband is leaving in two weeks and I will have no choice.

Jolene,

For me, the pain varies. Sometimes absolutely nothing! Its almost as if the spot is numb. Other times it has been so bad that I cried my eyes out. I am pregnant though so the hormones could have something to do with the crying. To be honest, I don't know how anyone could get "used" to taking this. For me it can be mentally frustrating as well as painful. Eveyone I talk to just says oh it well be worth it. And though I beleive them it still doesn't take away from the pain of doing it. Everytime I began I have to prepare my mind, once its over I just lay there and thank God for giving me the strenght to do it just one more time. I asked my nurse why the pain varies, she stated that some spots are just more sensitive than other spots.

***I have found a way to prevent severe brusing***
My tummy looked like a punching bag for a while, then I remembered something the nurse told me. You know when you go to give blood or something, they always have you put pressure on the spot with a cotton ball? Well I have found that putting pressure on the the spot helps a lot!! DONT RUB!! Just hold it down for however long u feel comfortable.

On
another note:

I had my first sonogram yesterday(vaginal) everything looked great!! 188bpm and the baby actually moved and wiggled its body it was sooo amazing. Well tonight I went to the restroom and I started bleeding, it appears to be more of spotting than anything. The only thing that concerns me is I have had a little cramping. I did experience some spotting a few weeks ago but it stopped, so I am not sure whats going on! Any suggestions???

Thanks for your response. My perinatal Dr. has told me to wait until they can see a heart beat to start the shots. So I have an ultrasound on Friday the 5th. It is frustrating to me because it has been hard for me to get the shots to begin with (with cost, and mail order) and now that I have them, I have to wait to do them. Does your shots come with an air bubble in them?

About your bleeding, it could be because of the ultrasound, and being on a blood thinner. Maybe it disrupted little veins in there. The cramping would be scary to me also. Hang in there and think positive:)
With my son a did bleed in the beginning of my pregnancy and I was told it was normal. I belive everything will be ok. Keep me posted.

Welcome

I have found this site very helpfull, and supportive. I hope you have the same experiance. I just wanted to say Congradulations, and I hope everything goes well.

Jolene - there aren't any bubbles in the needles of Lovenox that I got from the pharmacy.

I took my second shot today and had little pain with it, but it did bleed. I just put pressure on it with a gauze pad and that did the trick.

Julia - Yep, I do the shots myself. My husband did the first shot while I was on Heparin and the anticipation just about made me pass out. I pass out all the time when they take blood at the doctors too. I guess it is that I know I have complete control over it myself that helps me get through it. I find it much easier to do them myself - my husband still can't believe it!! lol

The little air bubble in the syringes of lovenox is not actually air. It is a little oil of some sort. I don't remember what's it's purpose is but it has one and is perfectly safe to inject.
Also My Doctor told me about a clinical study that showed that women who took an 81mg aspirin in the evening during pregnancy showed a decrease risk of complications.
I too am in search of why some women take only one injection of lovenox a day and other's take two. I am in the category of two a day, but can live with it. Some days are easier than others, but I agree that it will all be worth it.

I have a question...

About a week after I found out I was pregnant, I started showing significantly. I mean, everyone saw it and I felt heavier. My doc prescribed prometrium for me so I've been taking one of those a day, and suddenly, this week, I've noticed that I've been more nauseous than ever- can barely stand up straight, and my tummy went down a bit...

I'm thinking that it was consitipation that made my tummy that big already and gas.. because I've been having some gas pains too... but now that I'm more nauseous, my tummy isn't as big anymore and I was a little worried. This morning I got so dizzy and could barely stand up straight or walk anywhere without feeling like I was going to pass out. This entire week has been similar to that.

Anyone else felt like that who might take prometrium and lovenox?

Thanks,
Kennisha

Hi Kennisha,

I was on Heparin and progesterone suppositories and felt so incredibly bloated. I wrote that off as being just completely constipated and started adding a lot more bran to my diet.

I'm not sure about the dizziness - but as far as feeling nauseous maybe your morning sickness is finally kicking in?? How far along are you? I am now almost 14 weeks and haven't had much sickness, just some icky feelings and that is about it and lots of foods gross me out.

Bridget

Kennisha - December 30th, 2006 4:39 PM

Hi Bridget,

Maybe it was bloating, and I didn't realize it. I thought maybe it was twins or I was further along than 6 weeks. I should be about 7 weeks starting Sunday. My next appt is Jan 12th, when I will do my u/s.

I think it is the morning sickness. I was feeling alot of fatigue in the beginning, but now I really feel more nauseous than anything.

Thanks so much for the reply. Congrats on your little one!

P.S., almost everything I eat is nasty... especially bran cereal... so I'm trying to hold on and eat something.

HeatherMak - January 1st, 2007 8:28 PM

Kennisha,

Congrats on your BFP!

When you go for your u/s you might want to ask your OB for some Zoforan. It's for nausea and it works INSTANTLY!! Seriously. It dissolves under your tongue and tastes like the underside of a cow, but it's amazing. Within 15 minutes, you're a new woman. Ask about it. I was SO sick for the first 23 weeks I was pregnant and the only way I got through it was the Zoforan. No need to suffer with morning sickness so ask for some help!

Also, Preggie Pops seemed to work wonders, too! Sour raspberry and sour lemon drops worked great for me as well. When it was REALLY bad, I would peel and eat lemons...and squeeze limes into some club soda for a nice calming drink.

I hope this helps!! Keep us posted!!

As far as the 1 shot vs. 2 shots per day...I think it's doctor preference and not enough knowledge of what's out there.

I was on 30mg 2x/day per my RE. The VERY LAST OB appointment my OB asked why I was on 2 30mg shots a day when there was a 60mg shot I could have done ONCE A DAY! GRR!! HAHAHA!! I nearly slapped him!! He promised me that I could just do the one shot next time. Though, I have to say, if I had known there was a 60mg available, I would have asked at the very beginning of the pregnancy. But, no one offered any information as to what was available, so that is a lesson to me that I need to be more educated as far as my options. If you're on two shots a day, I would ask your RE AND your OB why. There may be reasons for it that we don't understand, so it's good to ask and be informed.

I hope everyone is well and had a great holiday! Best wishes to each of you for 2007!!

Hi All:

As far as those little bubbles go in the syringes of the lovenox- i have a little bubble in every one of mine. i kind of flick it up to the top & then sqeeze up the medicine to the top before injection. My pharmacist told me to do this too- it definitely seems like an air bubble to me that's why i asked the pharmacist... but now everyone gets different answers. So i'm going to continue getting rid of the bubbles before i inject.. if your DR is telling you different then i guess listen to them... i hate conflicting stories......

mrspfunk - January 2nd, 2007 1:50 PM

Jolene,

I asked my nurse about the bubbles because there a lot in my syringes and others they aren’t any. This was affecting the dosage I was receiving. These are indeed air bubbles, flick the needle a few times until all the air rises to the top and squeeze, you can even HEAR the air escaping. I have to do this every time because in my syringes it is 100 ml (I think) and I am only to take 70 so I have to get rid of some of the medicine each time. Now this WILL vary with every female, they told me it had to do with weight. Some women may not have to adjust there intake so in that situation it doesn’t matter if the air is there or not. Because I have to adjust mine each time, that air bubble can affect the amount of medicine that I am in taking, therefore it is necessary for me get rid of it. Hope this helps!! Good luck on your appt, I recently had one and I was so freaking nervous. Now that it’s over I am anxious for another!! I swear there is never a day where I am at easy!! Lol. Oh and I think you are right, with the bleeding. Because it disappeared agian!!

Hello Ladies,

3 years ago I delivered a healthy baby boy. 10 days after delivery I was hospitalized with a blood clot extending from my abdomen to my toes. I was hospitalized for a month. Was unable to bear any weight on my leg, and was in a wheel chair for another 2 weeks, then a walker for an additional 3 weeks and then I had a cane for 7 weeks. Needless to say I am familiar with lovenox, warfarin and baby aspirin. I continue to take 15 mg of warfarin a day.

My husband and I recently started talking about a 2nd child, my husband is apprehensive. I don't blame him, I am a little wary myselfabout taking lovenox pregnant.

I just wanted to say thank you for all the women who shared there stories on this site. I am hopeful now that if we do decide to get pregnant again, my child will be healthy.

My prayers are with all of you!
