lyly 14 Hi again I read one of your comment to someone else you mention something about predizone before you got pregnant can you tell me more about it and also you mention going to a rumatoligist I have not been to see one do you think I should

Carolinagrl- I completely understand how you feel. I feel like the worrying will never end. Before the baby was moving I worried if he was ok and now that the baby is moving when I don't feel him even for a little while I worry too! It is so hard.

Maria- I am so sorry to hear about your loss. You must be so devestated. I know there are no words that can make you feel better, only time will heal. As far as the prednisone, I was only on it because I was doing IVF. They use steroids to keep your body from rejecting the embryos since they were not created in the natural environment, your own body. I did take them longer than I was supposed to but that is not what my doc would have prescribed. I just felt like I needed to keep my immune response down until I knew whether or not I was pg. I was seeing a rheumatologist long before I was trying to conceive. I was really sick in my early 20's and they couldn't figure out what was wrong with me. My mom has lupus and the doctors thought I had an autoimmune disease like my mom. So I started seeing a rheumatologist. The only real diagnosis I got was the antiphospholipid syndrome and she started me on baby asprin (mainly due to my mother's history of ministrokes with the antiphospholipid syndrome). Some other women I know see a hematologist for this but I have never been to one myself. As far as pregnancy related problems like miscarriages, I think a reproductive endocrinologist is the best choice and once you are pg a high risk obgyn or maternal fetal medicine specialist (perinatologist). I wish you the best of luck. Don't give up!

Is it ok to bleed from the spot where you inject Lovenox. I injected mast night and I saw few drops of blood on the injection site, this morning I woke up with a big bruise the sixe bigger than a quarter. I do not really bruise from injecting myself. This is my third week doing it. I do not know if it is normal. I am exactly 7 weeks pregnant. Where else, besides the abdomen can you give the shots.

lyly14 - April 3rd, 2009 10:06 AM

Nathan's mom- I have bled once in a while after injecting the lovenox. Sometimes it doesn't even happen right away and the next morning I notice a few drops of dried blood. The bruising is quite common. I can go days or weeks with no bruising then sometimes I get a small tiny pin prick dot or large spots of bruising. I was told it was all normal. I have tried making sure the bubble in the syringe is the last thing to be injected and have found that I get less bruising and bleeding that way. As far as other injection sites, I was told I could move to the hip area or those wonderful love handles.

Hope everyone else is doing ok today!

MAria805 I am so sorry to hear about your loss. Have you seen a reproductive endocrinologist? They might be able to pin point what is wrong. Do you know if you have a blood clotting disorder, I read that you light have to use Lovenox. From my experience, I will suggest you to wait at least 3-4 months to try again. I know how bad you wnat a baby but your body need time to prepare.

nathans mom - April 4th, 2009 10:48 PM

I am currently taking Lovenox (40mg) once a day. I ask the nurse if I needed to get any kind of blood work to make sure the dosage was working. She told me
the dosage was very low and I did not needed any testing. Do any of you have blood work done? I am only 7 weeks, I will leave my RE once I hit the 10th week, then I will go ahead and see my regular OB plus I need to find a good perinatologist. My first pregnancy ended up with a stillbirth at 23 weeks. My OB thought I had APS, but the results came "inconclusive". My RE did more testig two months after and told me I had Protein S deficiency. When I go back to my regular OB, I wnat to make sure to ask tons of questions, becuase as you can imagine, I am freaking out thinking it might happened again. Any body here is getting extra tests doen to make sure the pregnancy is going well. I will aprreciate any advice. Thanks

carolinagrl - April 7th, 2009 10:57 AM

Nathan's mom~ I just started Lovenox two weeks ago this past Friday and they had me go to the lab Friday for bloodwork to check my levels to see how it is going. They just called yesterday with the results- levels are good! I am thinking they will need to check them at some point just to be sure it's doing what it should, kwim? Of course, I've just started all this, so maybe the other ladies here w/ more experience can answer better.
I think I will be checked on a regular basis- either bi-weekly or monthly. I have heard that some ladies' levels fluctuate and therefore they have to change dosage amounts to accomodate that.
My perinatologist is also doing a few more u/s as well.

lyly14 - April 7th, 2009 5:42 PM

Nathans mom- I have never been checked while on the lovenox. My doctor says that 40mg is only a prophalactic (spelling?) dose and no need to be checked. He told me if I was on a higher dose for actual treatment of a clot or placental problems then they would check it. Some doctors are more cautious but I also think it depends on the dose. Lovenox testing is also different from regular clotting therapies (coumadin, etc). They don't do the ptt or inr.

Cla- how did your appt go? I had a sono to check the baby's growth today. They said it was good and he was 2.8 lbs. I can't believe that! Unfortunately they saw something with his kidney's and want to recheck them in 3 weeks. I am a bit freaked out about the whole thing. The doctor told me it could be nothing or it could be that he has a blockage in his ureters. Never a dull moment.

Goofy5796 - April 9th, 2009 12:13 PM

nathans mom- I was on 80 of Lovenox as I had a blood clot in my jugular vein due to the IVF meds and i only had my levels checked the 1st week and that was it.
I had my daughter last May, but I gave all my shots in my thighs! I would never do the stomache! It gets harder there too once you get bigger. I would switch legs each night (outer thigh) and i had no issues. Less painful and didnt seem to bruise much. A little blood can be normal.

Hello and Congrats to everyone on here. I was just messing around on my computer and saw the bookmark for this page. I used this blog a lot when I was pregnant with my first son in 2006.
I just wanted to get on and send a little hope out to everyone on Lovenox. I have an antiphospholipid clotting factor and was on folic acid and lovenox during my pregnancies. I now have two handsome little boys. My oldest just turned two and my baby is almost 9 months.
I know how dificult it is to have the losses that some of you have experienced. I lost two and had a little girl that was premature and lost her as well. But I want to let you know that it is all worth it and my children are living proof that lovenox works. I remember the shots, and the bleeding and bruising and worrying but It's worth it. So hang in there and good luck to you all.

phylburr - April 12th, 2009 3:27 PM

maria- I am so sorry to hear about your loss, you and your family are in my prayers.

cla, jovani, carolinagrl and lyly- glad to hear all is well with the pregancies. Keep us posted.

Jean42506- Thanks for the encouragement, it always helps me (and I'm sure others)to hear success stories.

As for me is has been a roller coaster ride. I had some bleeding on 4/3 and went to the ER. My HCG was 25,293, my cervix was closed and they saw a gestational sac with a yolk. The bleeding stopped by the time I left the ER. On 4/10 I had my scheduled u/s which showed the yolk sac, fetal pole and a FHR of 112 (a little low). On the morning of 4/11 after giving my self my injection of Arixtra, I started sweating, having severe abd pain and I started bleeding. I went back to the ER and my HCG was 48,736, my cervix was closed and the FHR was 110-120. The bleeding stopped by the time I left the ER. I'm trying not to worry too much but I'm only 6w4d and my HCG levels did not double in 8 days. Please keep me and my family in your prayers.

jovani - April 14th, 2009 6:04 PM

Nathans mom - April 24th, 2009 12:16 AM

Do any of you know if Lovenox helps with IUGR? Before my stillbirth, my baby was measuring 1 week behing his gestationel age.

Also, I read that blood clotting disorders are responsible for pre eclampsia, preterm labor and other complications.

I am trying to get as much info as possible.

Jean42506 - April 25th, 2009 11:04 PM

Nathan's mom-
Yes clotting disorders can be responsible for preeclampsia etc. My HELLP Syndrome/eclampsia was caused by blood clots forming in the small blood vessels that go to my liver and kidneys. Of course not all preeclampsia is caused by blood clotting disorders.
Lovenox can help with IUGR in a round about way. IUGR is often caused by insufficient blood flow to uterus. Soooo. by preventing blood clots in the uterus you can prevent IUGR

Hi All!

I was so releived to find this site. I am 35 and at 5w6d. This is my 5th pregnancy with 4 previous m/c. I have an "undiagnosed" recurrent pregnancy loss and am seeing a perinatologist in addition to my OB/gyn. The perinatologist with OB's support put me on 1 40mg Lovenox/day and 2x daily Progesterone suppositories from Day 1 of + test. I have also been on the low dose 81mg Apsirin since last m/c per perinatologist and was told to continue daily through pregnancy.

I am worried because I started spotting on Wed. night of last week (5w1d). The 1st sign was pale pink, and since is has been intermittent and light brown. I have not seen any material pass, but with all the mess from the progesterone, I don't know how accurate an idea of the spotting I am getting. Yesterday, I had also some very mild cramping. My Dr. will not see me for u/s until Friday AM (will be 6w3d then) as they say I am too early to check viability until then. I cried myself to sleep last night and just prayed that this is not another m/c as I don't know if I can endure a 5th lost pg.

It seems in past years, there were many here who experienced some bleeding early on, but is there anyone on the site now who has gone through the same and still gone full term?

Any insight or encouragement to get me through this very long week ahead is welcome.

nathans mom - May 2nd, 2009 12:39 AM

Is is a protocol to use baby aspirin while using Lovenox. I use 40 mg a day just as a precaution for my Protein S deficiency (an previous stillbirth).

Today, I graduated from my RE and the nurse just called me to let me know I could stop taking the baby aspirin. I e-mail the Dr. to confirm and he told me to just atay wiht my Lovenox shots and my prenatals. I hear that some people stay on baby aspirin for longer. What is your experience on this?
