insulin resistance control

I had thought that my 4 miscarriages were due to a clotting disorder, Factor V Leiden. But two days ago I got the results from my fasting insulin level. It was 37. It was supposed to be 18 at the very highest. So, I'm thinking that's pretty bad! Add in that my two babies who made it were 10lb 8oz and 11lb 4oz and it definately makes sense - especially since I passed the 3 hour glucose test. (The good part of this diagnosis is that I won't have to do lovenox shots - just aspirin and more monitoring since I had two healthy babies in there).

My RE has told me to go on a diabetes diet. The choice was that or medication - can't remember the exact name but it's the one a lot of people with PCOS take - though I don't have that. I'm a healthy weight, eat healthy, and exercise regularly. So I'm going to have to go on a very strict diet since normal eating healthy still resulted in a 37! (I have since been retested and am awaiting results).

Just how awful is a 37? I know it's not good, but should I start freaking out or demanding more tests? Does anyone else have IR issues who was able to control it without medication?
