Who's done Amnio or CVS after miscarriage

HI:
i have a 3 1/2 yr old daughter. I am 9 weeks pregnant and i'm 38. I"ve had 4 m/c in the past 2 years. I'm already worried about the potential risks of doing an amnio or the cvs tests.... Has anyone done these after having multiple miscarriages and being over 35?
My dr isn't dead set on an amnio or cvs-we'll obviously do blood work to maybe determine if anything is needed. Also, i heard of a FIRST test too-just blood work to determine your possible chances of having a child with a problem.
what are most people doing over 35?
