Hi ladies,

I'm visiting this forum after a long time today and I wanted to share with u a couple of things.

I had a really bad case of PCOS ... my periods were totally irregular, I had no idea of knowing when it would come and also had long durations in between. I could go for abt 6-8 months without having a period.

When DH & I wanted babies, I tried almost everything natural I read or heard - Ovulex, Fertility Blend, Fennel seeds, Flax seed, Soy, Green tea, etc, etc, etc. But no luck.

I'm not saying that natural stuff doesn't work ... it can do wonders for some but it is of no use for many. So please do not wait for more than 6 months or 1 year at most if u don't see any improvement. Also it is not very wise to keep switching from one product to another. Consult ur ob/gyn after you've tried different things on ur own for a year.

My ob/gyn put me on a drug called Metformin and I got pregnant after taking it for 2 months. I've done some research on this medication, it is supposed to reduce insulin resistance, a condition associated with PCOS.
That means Metformin is for treating diabetic patients but it is shown to work very well on PCOS patients.

Again, not every woman with PCOS is a right candidate for Metformin so plz check with ur doc.

The good thing abt Metformin is: it doesn't have those uncomfortable side effects that u get while taking Clomid. That means no thick cm, no mood swings and u can take it for quite some time safely. Ofcourse it comes with its own side effects like diaherria, constipation, GI disturbances, etc but all these last only in the beginning. For me it took abt a month to get used to it, there were times when I decided to give up this drug becoz of the side effects. But I'm glad now that I didn't.

Also a low carb healthy diet will help to a great extent when u combine with medication/treatment.

I went on this diet for those 2 months in combination with Metformin and I strongly believe that it helped me conceive.

This is what I did: I avoided rice, white bread, pasta, potatoes and sugar. I know it sounds awful but belive me, once u take heart and start this u'll be soo proud of urselves that u don't want to eat any of these high carb foods again.

It has some very useful info.

Cut down or its even better to totally cut out alchohol and smoking and drinks lots of water. Start ur day with fruit or add a serving of fruit to ur daily meal, also try and eat fresh vegetables. Avoid artificial sugar in any form (even diet coke). Just watch out and eat/drink as healthy as u can. Thats the first step. It takes a lot of will power but believe me ladies, it will really help u.

With that I'd like to say good bye and good luck to all of u.

hello ladies,
i am now 12 days late. I stopped taking the ovulex 4 days ago to see if af would come, but not yet. if it was the ovulex shouldn't it be out of my system already? Since I stopped i started having more cramping. I keep going to the bathroom b/c i think it's here, but it's not. i'm getting a little worried now. my dh has finally caught on to how many days late it's been (he normally now around when af is due, but not exact date), he's getting a little too excited. if no af by tomorrow i'm going to retest, i just fear a bfn. we'll both be very disappointed. If bfn again i'll have to call the dr. on monday to schedule an appt. i just hope that they don't tell me to wait another couple of weeks to see if af comes or not.

baby dust to all!!!!

sammy71 - June 16th, 2006 3:32 PM

Hang in there Steph. Try not to stress or get too excited. I know it's hard and the dissapointment will be difficult if BFN. We'll be praying for you.

12 days is a long time to be late. Was your AF irregular before?

Baby Dust***

StephMalkowski - June 16th, 2006 5:25 PM

sammy71,
i've never been irregular. in january i was about 5 days late, but i know that was because it was the week of my wedding and i was extremely stressed! other than that i'm every 34 days. i'm not getting my hopes up, i'm more concerned that something might be wrong. hopefully not though.

sammy71 - June 16th, 2006 5:49 PM

Steph,
On all the boards I've read I would say that 80% of the women were about a week late on AF the first month they started Ovulex and the next month everything was back to normal. The other 20% had a BFP...so it's at least one of two things.

Again, hang in there. Try to do something relaxing this weekend. Maybe taking your mind of it will release the stress in your body. I know last month I mowed the lawn and worked in the yard all day and got AF the same day...two days early. Try something like that or hiking or biking...

StephMalkowski - June 16th, 2006 5:54 PM

sammy71,
thank you so much for the encouraging words! i really appreciate it. It's good to here that it's usually either one or the other...my mind tends to overthink and goes straight for the negative. I will definitely relax this weekend, as a matter of fact i might just leave work early tonight! Have a great weekend!

YJ - June 17th, 2006 9:57 AM

Hey Steph,

Hope you hv a great weekend too ya! Just hang in there...know that our warmest wishes are with you. Perhaps a day at the spa may do the trick and help destress? :D I know that it definitely does for me.
Juz to share with you that I am 4 days late...and because I couldn't wait (even tho I know I wd be soo heartbroken if its a BFN) I took the clearblue test. Funny though...results should be either a "+" if its positive or "-" if its negative. However, I got a "|". Wonder what that vertical line means? Shouldn't it be a horizontal line? :(

*sigh* I dunno abt you ladies but I find it more and more difficult to go out and meet my friends and family. cos I know someone out there is bound to be pregnant (whilst Im not even after being married for 2 years) or are already having kids. And all they would talk about is BABIES! Kinda depressing really.

Well....sorry if my msg sounds rather naggy...juz wanna let off steam.

sammy71 - June 17th, 2006 10:41 AM

YJ,
That's what we are here for. No one understands us like each other. We went to dinner with a supper club last night that we just started. Someone at the table asked the couple across from us, "so do you have kids". I just cringed....I think that is the worst questions you can ask someone new. The lady was very polite and said "no we are actually thinking about adopting". I told her my son was adopted and I'd would be happy to give any advice, gave her my e-mail and promptly changed the subject. People just don't understand how insensitive they can be without knowing it. Why does society revolve around, "so do you have kids?"

Have a great Saturday everyone. I'm off to shop, that always makes me feel good. Baby Dust, Everyone!!!

Keep The Faith!!!

Supernatural Baby Dust!!!

YJ - June 17th, 2006 10:11 PM

Sammy,

Thanx. I guess people assume that every couple is sure to have kids hence the golden question. :D What they don't realise is that it actually is not easy for some to conceive...like me.
Oh yes ladies...another thing I want to share with you ladies is that my doctor advised me and DH to do it only every other day. eg i hv a 28 day cycle so we should do it on days 13, 15, 17, 19. Because he said the quality of the sperm would be "stronger" this way. Not sure if its working tho...

Good luck to all!

NANCY - June 18th, 2006 7:45 AM

When my Aunt was trying her dr told her to do it every day. We tried that we went from every day to every other day. We told my dor that and he said to try every 36 hrs. A very exhausting 3 months!!!

Good luck and much baby dust to you all!!

dreamerbeyond - June 18th, 2006 1:34 PM

I am 23 and my husband is 24. We have only been trying for 3 months now but I have been having periods every 2 weeks so I have become quickly frustrated. Because Ovulex is so expensive and many of the ingredients are not directly to enhance fertility, we have done some research on fertility herbs and are going today to pick up some of them instead of Ovulex. This way we can control what I take and how much, as well as the quality. Has anyone tried this? I feel silly because so many of you have been trying for years and me for only 3 months but I cannot help but feel upset each time my period comes every 2 weeks.

sammy71 - June 18th, 2006 3:42 PM

Hi Dreamerbeyond,
I have heard of people just taking vitamin C or Chasteberry before and being sucessful. I once tried progesterone cream for three months but all it did was increase my libido to the point I was a walking horny toad. LOL We get so desparate sometimes we will try anything. Good luck and let us know if it works.

dreamerbeyond - June 18th, 2006 6:33 PM

Well, I purchased fertility supplementing hebs on my own that I researched and this is what I got: Trifolium pretense (red clover), Vitex Agnus-Castus (Chaste Tree Berry), Rubus Idaeus (Red Rasberry), Dang Quai (Don Quai), and green tea. I only spent $25 by purchasing these products that are more directly related to fertility. I hope this helps. Ill let everyone know.

Hey, I've felt like I've been sucking on a nickel for the last two days. Anyone had that symptom with Ovulex or pregnancy?

Hope everyone had a great weekend.
Baby Dust. Sammy
