Has anyones DH had a varicocelectomy? I am hoping to hear your experiences re: recovery? How long and how much pain? Back to work in a couple of days? Your experiences are helpful to prepare- we have surgery in 3 weeks!

My husband has the same condition but due to our age and the fact that the surgery is more invasive we chose to go straight to IVF w/ICSI. The urologist explained to us that it could take as long as 6 months for the sperm to return to normal and maybe a year before we would be able to conceive naturally. Even then we might still have to do IVF b/c sometimes the sperm "forget" how to swim, largely depends on how long he has had the condition. Also his body could have started producing antibodies to his own sperm. The aspiration for my DH will be less invasive and will allow us to get started sooner. Hope this helps.
