artificial insemination

I'm a little confused....my understanding was that artificial insemination could be performed by one of two methods: ivf or iui.

I just got a new insurance plan. They state they cover artificial insemination, but ivf is not covered. So, I asked if it's IUI that is covered. I was told she doesn't think so. So, what exactly do they mean?

Is my understanding of the process wrong? Is artificial insemination something completely different from IVF & IUI? ???

Tigger, that doesn't make sense! Isn't IVI insemination?
What the heck are they talking about? A turkey baster? That person must be wrong. cassandra

Hi Tigger

I think Artificial Insemination and IntraUtrine Insemination ( IUI ) are one and the same. So the woman giving you the "info" is wrong. I do think IVF is not the same thing as they don't just put the washed sperm inside the uterus, they take the eggs out and fertilize them outside the body. So...I hope I helped. lol

I cracked up turkey baster too! Thanksgiving would never be the same. ;)

Thanks for the clarification.

Yeah , iui is artificial insemination. Ivf is not. I wish a turkey baster would work, alot cheaper.
