Rest Period Immediately After Embryo Transfer?

Hi Dr Smith,

I just had my first IVF cycle and had 3 embryos transferred yesterday. I am told that my clinic has patients lie down for 30 minutes immediately after the transfer. I read online that some clinics have patients lie down for 2 hours.

Immediately after my transfer, 2 nurses had me stand up and walk to the recovery room where I did lie down for 30 minutes.

My question is this: If I am supposed to stay lying down, why have me stand up and walk to a room where I lie down? Doesn't that negate the benefit of lying down immediately after the transfer? And, should I have stayed horizontal for 2 hours or is 30 minutes plenty?

I am very eager for your thoughts. Thank you.
