Long Lupron protocol

Hi Dr. Smith,

I have been on Lupron for three weeks in preparation to begin stims for an IVF cycle. My E2 levels don't seem to be cooperating and aren't going down as they would like.

After one week of 10 units of Lupron my E2 was at 90. They kept me on the same dosage for week 2 and then it was at 113. They upped the dose to 20 units and today I got the call that it is at 95. They said to stay on 20 units and come back next week. I also have PCOS and last week had 21 follicles, this week 15.

In your opinion, will this long Lupron protocol effect the eggs for my IVF? Could it affect the quality of the eggs or make them more immature/mature? I am beginning to get discouraged.

Thanks,
Shannon

Lupron does not effect the eggs directly. Prolonged exposed to Lupron may effect the upcoming cycle in terms of follicluar response to gonadotropins which could indirectly affect eggs. I think you should post this one on Dr Jacob's Message Board. As an RE, he might have a different take on this.
