2 blastocysts from 31 fertilized eggs

Hello Dr.Smith. I'm hoping you could shed some light on our situation, as you seem to be very well-informed and experienced in this area.

My story: 36 years old, husband is 43, naturally conceived son 3.5 after 14 months of TTC. After almost 2 years of ttc #2, we turned to IUI, then IVF. We just had our IVF transfer today.

Our IVF cycle: 40 eggs retrieved, 31 fertilized, 30 divided to Day 3 with 15 8-cell and the rest below 8. Today was Day 5 and there were only 2 good blastocysts - one was a 4AB and the other a 3AB. We transferred the 4AB, froze the 3AB and they'll see if there's more to freeze tomorrow.

The doc explained that this is most probably our issue - the fact that our embryos are having trouble getting from Day 3 to Day 5.

I've been reading about sperm DNA fragmentation. Do you think it could be this? Any other ideas? Any suggestions on how to move forward if this fresh transfer, then FET does not work?

Thank you so much!
