I had my first IVF transfer on January 12th - I took that day and the following day and then it was Sat and Sun and then I went back to work on Monday .. I work two jobs and I felt fine to do both since I am lucky I sit .

My suggestion is just to take it easy when you do go back to work and NO LIFTING. Sit down frequently and rest.

I am not sure yet how this whole thing works myself and I feel like my period is getting ready to come on - so maybe I should have stayed off my feet a little longer - but i was in bed for a full three days and thought that was ok ..

We are planning our first cycle in July, and in my line of work (I am a nurse in a surgical ward, on my feet all day), I am considering how long I should possibly take off.

We do so much want it to be a success first time, so I am thinking of taking 4 weeks off, I work full time. The last 2 weeks would be in the 2WW period.

Any thoughts or suggestions to how you handled this would be helpful.

Thank you for your reply to the topic.

My job is very much on my feet, sometimes no rest periods for some time and also stressful (I nurse). I am wanting to be prepared to take it easy for it to work, but then you don't know... I also have to travel for treatment 2 hours away so that is why too.

I also find there is so much out there to try in attempt to make it work, accupunture, massage, herbal medicine... So confusing.

All the best for your blood test... I will be thinking of you and your dh.

Thanks for your well wishes and you do whatever feels right for you - if you want to take off the entire 2ww - go for it - your body needs the rest and from what you are telling me you are just like me and we work too much anyway -- take a break for yourself.

I think AF is coming - i had some brown spotting early 1:00 a.m. today, but nothing since - so i am calling the dr today at 9:00 .. for me i guess it is back to the drawing board.

My RE only suggested the 2 days, but I took it easy for a week after the transfer. I don't work, but I personally would have taken off at least a week to relax and let my body work on one objective!

I agree with Justme. A week is a good length of time to give your body. I just had a my transfer yesterday and I was recommended to take it easy until Thursday. I need it! After working in a stressful job until September, and doing the treatments at the same time, I realized that I had to make achoice, because I really had a hard time. I had the chance (I'm very grateful for that), to work from home now. The money is not the same.... but it has been much easier on my mind, and therefore on my body. I know I'm lucky to be able to do that. But since I couldn't take one or even 2 weeks off for the treatment when I was working, that was worth it. This is too important, take care of yourself!

In the country I live in, New Zealand, under the public health system couples are intitled to 2 IVF cycles for free. But the waiting list is scored, it took us 2 years after the referral to get this far, that is being intitled to our first IVF cycle.

Yes this is my first IVF cycle-- they have me on the progesterone oil shots at night and i was wondering do they prevent AF from coming or is she just staying away b/c maybe i am BFP .. i was actually due on Sunday so was wondering ..

have to go back to work b/f boss comes in ..

Hi hopeful2006. I just went into the definition category, and found this about progesterone:
progesterone softens your uterine lining, helping with implantation. That's why you have to take the shots. I do too. It seems that our lives revolve around the shots! I made reservations fro dinner yesterday, well I had to take into account the time for the shot, the DH massage and the heat pad afterwards! I stopped wondering when A/F comes because with all the meds, it seems that I don't know any more when it is supposed to come. But.....the last time I bought some pads, I bought the smallest bag because I thought that I won't need it for quite some months...... Just a way to get things going!

thanks so much for looking into that for me .. I know i called my dr and she basically said that they don't expect our periods to start on the normal 28 day cycle. they schedule the tests (at least my RE does) 20 days from the trigger shot and said that usually it will come if it is going to right after that . my friend's came the day after the pg test the first time and then she tried again and had a BFP.

I actually had to leave my job because it was very stressful being in sales as it was. This was my first cycle and I finished in early March and came out with a negative. I think when it comes to telling how much time off, its hard. Everyones body reacts differently to the med's. My body over reacted and I became the 5% that had ovarian hyperstimulation. Not fun and completely unable to perdict until it was too late. I was weak and tired before the retrieval and on bed rest for two weeks after. I even had 2 days in the hospital. So you just never know how your body is going to respond. I am going for my 2nd cycle at the end of May. I think I will have better results because I won't be on all the med's. Good luck everyone and keep the faith.
