You give the following as options for the use of frozen embryos: giving them to another woman or couple; destroying them; or using them yourself. I wonder whether giving them to support stem cell research is a possibility.
I understand that it would be hard to think of a child that is genetically yours being raised by others. And I understand too that it would be hard simply to have them thawed and thrown away. An embryo has so much potential: to become a person itself or to give life to other people.
It has always seemed to me that bringing children into the world is a morally equivocal act, but that easing the suffering of those who are already here is without a doubt a morally good thing to do. Since the embryo does not have the capacity to suffer, but has the capacity to help end suffering, it seems to me that donating embryos for use in stem cell research is a very good option.
