Hi Doctor,

My husband was born with bilateral undescended testicles that weren't corrected until he was 8 - I know from reading about it that we will more than likely need ICSI to conceive. He had a semen analysis done that came back inconclusive but hasn't yet gone for a repeat test. My question is what do you think his chances are of having just one healthy sperm for the procedure? Also, how is a semen analysis determined as inconclusive? I'd be so grateful of any help.

I have not seen a semen analysis reported as inconclusive. If you can find a subspecialist in male infertility, I would recommend seeing him. They are sub specialty trained urologists. Only a few are around. Since his repair was performed before puberty, I think your chances are probably fairly good.

Thank you so much for your response. I'm really glad that you said that our chances could be fairly good as the repair was done before puberty. We've only ever thought that our chances were bad because the repair is usually performed before the age of 2.

We will take your advice and see a specially trained urologist.
