I am 28 years old and recently married. My husband and I are trying to conceive. We have only been trying for about 2 months, but I am worried that I may have trouble conceiving, or may not be able to on my own at all. I was almost 17 before I had my 1st period, and have never had a regular cycle (except when on the pill). I will have a period maybe once or twice a year, completely random, and when I do, it is very light spotting for a day or 2. I have spoken to many different doctors (I was in the military for 6 years, so I didn't have one particular doctor) but have had the same doctor for the last 3 years, and all have said the same thing, "I wouldn't be too concerned if I were you." But I am concerned! My current doctor has said that I have to try for a year without success before they will be concerned about infertility. Everything I find online and in books about fertility and ovulation basis everything off your monthly cycle. This doesn't help me in the least, as I don't have a monthly cycle. Is my doctor wrong? Do I need to be concerned? Is there something more I can do? Can/should I make my doctor refer me to a specialist?
