My 1st Beta was done 8dp5dt and was 10. 48 hrs later it was 34. It did double but am I crazy to think there is hope?

That is lower than I would like to see it, but it did double. You may be OK.

My HCG levels went up to 800 a week later, which means there was a 1.28 day doubling time. I am spotting (very light brown) with some period type cramps. Is this all normal for 5 1/2 weeks pregnant? My RE wants to do an ultrasound next week but I am concerned (because I have heard)that an early ultrasound will harm the fetus. Is there any truth to this?

An early ultrasound will not harm the fetus. At 6 weeks, it may be a bit too early to see a fetal heart. You may need to return at 7 to 8 weeks to get a good measurement of fetal heart rate. Light bleeding and mild cramping are not unusual in early pregnancy, and may mean nothing. Congratulations.
