Lovenox is supposably better during early pregnancy. Thats good that they only want it during the first trimester i would not want to take it the whole time not especially as a precaution. My RE was not reluctant they were all gunho on it i was reluctant.

bdantonio--they are NOT giving me the lovenox or heparin. They never even mentioned it. I read something about heparin and started asking my nurse about it. My nurse just told me when I asked about the heparin that they use Lovenox. They are only giving me progesterone oil and estrogen shots. This is why I am upset. I will take the Lovenox as long as they want me to and I am terrified of shots. I have stayed on my OCP an extra day to try to push things back. If I hadn't found this sight I wouldn't even have known about the heparin.

Crystal: How far are you from DE?

crystal999 - November 25th, 2007 5:21 AM

bdantonio- about 2-2 1/2 hrs.

bdantonio - November 25th, 2007 9:58 AM

Crystal maybe you should switch RE if you are not getting the results you wish to get.

crystal999 - November 25th, 2007 12:56 PM

bdantonio--yeah that is my next thought. But this place is the best in my area. Their statistics are pretty good. But I feel better. They gave me a referral for a fetal maternal specialist this morning when I went for my monitoring. He/She will make the determination for the lovenox. At least that is a step. It seems all of the nurses where I go have been through IVF of IUI. The nurse was very empathetic this morning.

For a minute. she did say they usually want to hear a heartbeat. I haven't been getting that far. I m/c at 6-8 wks. I am going to see what he/she says.

crystal are you stil ttc or are you pregnate?

crystal999 - November 25th, 2007 4:34 PM

No I am not pregnant yet. I am doing a FET. So it seems to be going really quick. But only the Fetal Maternal Specialist can put me on the Lovenox according to my RE. What kind of side effects did you experience from the Lovenox and what does TTC mean?

Hi,

I am new to this site and blood clotting disorders too.
I have 3 children ages 7,5 and 2. My first pregnacy was problem free. High blood preasure with my second and born at 38 weeks with no problems. Third pregnancy- 32 weeks 5 days baby was not moving I didn't think much of it running around after a 4 and 2 year old. Hours and hours went by and I finally drove myself to the emergency room just to make sure my baby was ok. Baby was not ok and delivered by c-section and resusitated after 10 minutes Dr used an epinephrin shot into his heart and he started to come around but was intubated 4 days. One week later I found out that I had a blood clot in the placenta and partial placental abruption. 2.5 years later my husband and I wanted to try for another baby - last one. I visited a hematologist for severe anemia and find out I have Factor II Prothrombin Mutation!! And she tells me not to have anymore babies at all! I was heart broken. I know I have three beautiful babies but my heart had been set on one more. But on the other hand I am totally freaked out about the thought of another blood clot. Just wanted to know if anyone has the same disorder and has had a successful pregnancy? Or has any other info for me.

Thanks

crystal999 - November 26th, 2007 2:16 AM

christy_13--I don't have a blood disorder as far as I know. But this site/forum did bring some pertinent info to inquire about w/ my re. It seems that a blood thinner would help w/ a clotting disorder. Good Luck!

Hello ladies! So glad I found this site. It's the most informative I've found!

I'm currently 35 weeks pregnant, just diagnosed with a Pulmonary Embolism :( They started me on 2 hots of Lovenox a day. I'm getting used to them already, but the burning is quite irritating to say the least. It's all for the best though! :)

My question, for those of you who have taken blood thinners to the end of pregnancy, were you induced to prevent going into labor while on Lovenox? I read somewhere that switching to heparin at 36 weeks was a good idea, as it has a shorter half-life than Lovenox. My doctor wants to induce so that I have at least 24 hours off the Lovenox before delivery. I don't want to be refused an epidural due to blood thinners being present, but I certainly don't want to risk being paralyzed either.

The other thing that concerns me, is that if I need a c-section, and the Lovenox is present in my system, I would need to be put under general anesthesia. I'd really like to be awake when my son is born.

Any advice? I see my OB this week, but I don't feel like they're taking this as seriously as they should be. I don't have many options, because as great as military health insurance is (I pay nothing for Lovenox), I have to see the doctors at our military treatment facility, or it costs an arm and a leg.

Thanks for reading!!

jd--I am not sure about the flu shot. I would ask your doctor about that. I don't know if it's ok to get the shot while you are pg. That would definitely be something that I would be concerned about. I normally do not get the flu shot, because I have heard that it actually gives you the flu.

Hope that helps a little.

Robyn-Are you in the hospital? I know when I had Pulmonary Embolism I was hospitalized for a few days. Where are the blood clots located?

As far as the burning with the Lovenox, as you're dispensing the medicine do so at a slow pace. I found that it either doesn't burn at all, or very little. Also make sure the hole in the needle is pointing down towards the skin instead of up before inserting. Injecting the lovenox in the upper leg is also not so painful as in other areas. Hope this helps :)

bdantonio - November 27th, 2007 12:10 PM

Crystal ttc means trying to concieve. When i was on lovenox i got rash, i felt drunk for like 1-2 hrs afterwards, I had dizzy spells and fainted three times. I dont know why your RE cant give you lovenox that is who prescribed mine.

Natiemom: I have never heard of someone not being induced with blood thinners they like to control the environment.

bdantonio - November 28th, 2007 7:20 PM

Jenny when i took it i was told either the inner thigh or bellow the belly button. They say belly let the medicine distribute better but my RE said the thigh was okay

jnoland - November 29th, 2007 8:59 AM

Hi bdantonio,

Thanks you for your response. How far along in your pregnancy? I found when the belly grows bigger and bigger, it gets tougher to do it on the belly as you can't get the skin fold any more. That is why I am considering other areas.

Do you have the same problem with the belly area or it is not important to do the skin fold?

Jenny
