Laura,
As it was explained to me, if you have a clotting disorder, you are more likely to miscarry as the uterus will think the implanting fertilized egg a clot and dispel it. That is why Lovenox is prescribed as early as possible for some women given their specific clotting problem.
The Lovenox is for your health, not the baby's...though, technically, I guess it IS for the baby since you're on it to prevent miscarriage. Your blood volume SIGNIFICANTLY increases during pregnant and you are at greater risk for creating a clot and having that clot really - negatively - interfere with your life. Therefore, a quick acting blood thinner, like Lovenox, will keep YOU healthy, and subsequently the baby as well.
Like Miicki, I was on Lovenox because of a clotting problem and miscarriages. I'm not on any blood thinners now, but I will be once I get pregnant again...God willing. As I get older, I will be tested to see if the clotting factors I have interfere with my life. If they do, I will most likely be on blood thinners for the rest of my life. Probably not Lovenox, though, just a pill.
As for your break, I would say if you're bleeding, your blood is thin enough and the break is necessary. However, if you are at all concerned - ASK YOUR DOCTOR!! That is why they are there, that is why they have office staff...call them every day if you have to. YOU ARE NOT A BOTHER TO YOUR DOCTOR. If you ARE a bother to your doctor, find a new one. Seriously, ask your doc and tell him/her your concerns about being off the Lovenox. You should talk WITH your doctor, not just follow their orders. I have a friend who had several miscarriages, and when she finally became pregnant successfully she would call her doctor THREE TIMES A DAY sometimes with questions about the food she was eating, whether or not she was getting enough of this or that nutrient...and he would usually call her at the end of the day when he had time to talk with her. So, CALL YOUR DOCTOR if you are AT ALL concerned about ANYTHING...EVER. If a nurse calls you back, talk to them and tell them you REALLY want to talk to your doctor. If they won't let you, wait until the evening...about 7 or 7:30...and page the doctor. They call you directly at night, right? So, call and talk to him/her when you know they will be available to you. As I said, if you're getting the runaround from them, put your foot down and demand answers!! Be an advocate for your own healthcare, your doctor can't and won't...thanks to our insurance industry.
I'll keep you and baby in my prayers. PLEASE keep us posted and let us know how you're doing!!!!!!
