Donovan's Mommy-
Congrats on your doctors appointment.
I did check out needymeds.com and I was wondering which program you applied for? Thanks again for the info.

Hi Ladies,

I just wanted to share that I my baby daughter was born via c- section on Sept. 13, 2006 and very healthy. (2 weeks early, 7lbs. 20 inches long) Thanks to GOD & Lovenox injections!! In case some of you don't remember me, I have factor V. I took my 2 injections daily upto 36 hours before my surgery where I had a spinal. Then 24 hours after surgery I started injections again. 48 hours after surgery, I did my reg. dose of lovenox & coumedin pill for 7 days. Then I finally became therapeudic. So now my hemotologist is keeping me on coumedin until 8weeks post. Just wanted to share my experience that is another lovenox success story!! Good Luck to you all.

Love,
Aprilsteph

Congats!!!!

It's so great to here such wonderful outcomes. It definately makes me feel more at ease about my pregnancy and when I deliver.

Katy; My husband was the one who went on the website and got the application, so I am not sure. As far as I know it's just the Lovenox reinbursment program. It might be more helpfull just to call the "800" number I gave you, That way you can also ask questions.

Good Luck!

HeatherMack:

yes, what Gidd was talking about i believe is the same test i will be doing- it basically gives you a 90% accuracy if something is genetically wrong w/your baby. One big one for me is Downs-i just want to rule that out. No family history or anyhing-but i just want to make sure.
yes, just blood work & measuring of the baby. I think it takes a week to get the results. so at 13 weeks i will know something vs at 16-18 if you have an amnio.
these are earlier tests that you can do which is great...

Hello,
My wife has been on Lovenox, Prenatels, and baby asprin for the last 32 weeks. She is pregnant with twins. Our doctor wants to take her off the Lovenox and baby asprin at week 34. I'm very nervous about this and I want what is best for my wife and children to be. Are there any questions that I should ask the doctor. Should we be looking out for anything after she is off the medicine? Is this normal protocol to be taken off the medication? I could see why they would want her off the medicine, but then I read a recent post about a lady that took the Lovenox up to 10 weeks after she delivered.
Thank you,
Michael

Wow - never knew a site like this existed! You are all full of such wonderful information and inspiration.

To answer the previous question...I have gone off Lovenox at 38 weeks and not gone back on a blood thinner. I have had 3 healthy, perfect births. I did go back on Lovenox for 6 weeks post-partum, but during the last week of pregnancy, I was off everything (I had all my babies at 39 weeks). I had an epidural during all 3 deliveries with no complications whatsoever.

My question to all of you...I was on Heparin with my first pregnancy and on Lovenox with my second and third. I had been diagnosed with Factor V, which was the reason for the blood thinners. I am wondering if the Lovenox was for my health (ie: so that I did not develop any clots during pregnancy) or if it was to reduce the risk of miscarriage (ie: prevent clotting in utero)? I always thought it was the first reason, but after reading all of your stories, I am seeing that many people feel that the Lovenox prevents miscarriages. Any insight?

I am currently 10 weeks pregnant and my doctor had me on Lovenox, but has taken me off for the past 2 weeks because of some heavy bleeding. His plan was to let the bleeding subside and put me back on in 1-2 weeks. Now, however, I am concerned about miscarriage. I have been blessed not to have had any miscarriages thus far. I feel like I should start the injections again immediately??

Ugh...it is tough to find the right answers out there.

Thanks for any help and advice...Laura

Laura:

Yes, i think there is some truth to being on Lovenox that it will help you not to miscarry... I think in many of the cases i've read-they've actually be diagnosed w/an issue so that is why they are on lovenox. In my case- there is nothing in my medical history to tell me i needed to be on Lovenox. But from what 2 fertility specialists told me-having 4 miscarriages after 1 normal birth is not normal but they couldn't find anything wrong with me. All ended prior to 10 weeks. So crossing my fingers-i'm at 12 weeks and on 40 mg of lovenox 1x per day & who knows if that is what's keeping me pregnant but i'll take it... i'm on baby aspirin too.

maybe try to get back onto the injections as soon as the dr says it is ok..
good luck

Laura,

As it was explained to me, if you have a clotting disorder, you are more likely to miscarry as the uterus will think the implanting fertilized egg a clot and dispel it. That is why Lovenox is prescribed as early as possible for some women given their specific clotting problem.

The Lovenox is for your health, not the baby's...though, technically, I guess it IS for the baby since you're on it to prevent miscarriage. Your blood volume SIGNIFICANTLY increases during pregnant and you are at greater risk for creating a clot and having that clot really - negatively - interfere with your life. Therefore, a quick acting blood thinner, like Lovenox, will keep YOU healthy, and subsequently the baby as well.

Like Miicki, I was on Lovenox because of a clotting problem and miscarriages. I'm not on any blood thinners now, but I will be once I get pregnant again...God willing. As I get older, I will be tested to see if the clotting factors I have interfere with my life. If they do, I will most likely be on blood thinners for the rest of my life. Probably not Lovenox, though, just a pill.

As for your break, I would say if you're bleeding, your blood is thin enough and the break is necessary. However, if you are at all concerned - ASK YOUR DOCTOR!! That is why they are there, that is why they have office staff...call them every day if you have to. YOU ARE NOT A BOTHER TO YOUR DOCTOR. If you ARE a bother to your doctor, find a new one. Seriously, ask your doc and tell him/her your concerns about being off the Lovenox. You should talk WITH your doctor, not just follow their orders. I have a friend who had several miscarriages, and when she finally became pregnant successfully she would call her doctor THREE TIMES A DAY sometimes with questions about the food she was eating, whether or not she was getting enough of this or that nutrient...and he would usually call her at the end of the day when he had time to talk with her. So, CALL YOUR DOCTOR if you are AT ALL concerned about ANYTHING...EVER. If a nurse calls you back, talk to them and tell them you REALLY want to talk to your doctor. If they won't let you, wait until the evening...about 7 or 7:30...and page the doctor. They call you directly at night, right? So, call and talk to him/her when you know they will be available to you. As I said, if you're getting the runaround from them, put your foot down and demand answers!! Be an advocate for your own healthcare, your doctor can't and won't...thanks to our insurance industry.

I'll keep you and baby in my prayers. PLEASE keep us posted and let us know how you're doing!!!!!!

HeatherMak -

Thank you sooo much for your response. You sound like such a terrific person and you are so inspirational to all of these women!!!

I did call the dr. and I am going in today to see him/have another ultrasound. He felt that if the bleeding had stopped (which it seems to have) that I would go back on Lovenox today. I think that's best at this point...

I will keep you posted.

Thanks again for the support,
Laura

Laura,

Yea!! I'm glad you're going to be able to see your doc and get an u/s. Please let us know how everything goes today!!

And thanks for your kind words. Really, that really touched my heart. I'm only doing what I can to help. I didn't have a whole lot of answers when I needed them, so I dug until I find them. The only thing I can do is share my experience and hope it helps someone. God has put it on my heart to help others navigate the mine fields I did...so there you go. I don't have any answers, all I have is my experience and hope that helps someone on their journey.

Let us know what happens at the doc today!!! ;)

GINAMARIE - November 1st, 2006 8:09 PM

Hello everyone! I haven't wrote in a couple of weeks but I see everyone is doing good.

Miicki, Thanks for sharing with me your story and your inspirational advice. I see that your doing very well, I am so exicited for you.

Heathermak, I never really got an exact answer on why i'm taking metformin other than all three of my doctors(ivf doc,ob & perinatalist) told me to continue taking it because it will be very beneficial to me in the long run, so I know it has to do with my clotting disorder. I had a very hard time with it in the begining, it was making me have horrible stomach problems, but I am finally getting adjusted to it :)

I started my meds yesterday for a cyro cycle, so i'm very nervous but excited at the same time. I have to be on the meds for approx 15-20 days before they tranfer the embroys. My last ivf cycle i didn't start lovenox until after i found out i was pg (5weeks) but because of the m/c the doctors are thinking about starting me before i have the transfer done. When did you girls start taking the lovenox? Before you tried to conceive or after your pg??

HeatherMak - November 3rd, 2006 9:54 AM

Gina,

YEA!! Glad to hear things are moving forward!!

You know, as I menioned in a previous post, the implanting embryo can be seen as a clot and becaue of your clotting problems can be expelled by the uterus. So, it makes perfect sense that you would be put on Lovenox prior to any transfers. I really pray that this works well for you!! The meds blow, I know, but it's all for a wonderful cause...and after all the injections you'll be doing, the Lovenox will be a breeze!!

PLEASE keep us posted and we wish you TONS AND TONS AND TONS of baby dust!!

donovansmommy - November 3rd, 2006 11:03 PM

Hello all!!! How is everybody? As for me; I can't wait until Monday. I am going to have my 18 week ultrasound. I know in my heart eveything is going to be fine and hopefully we will be able to tell the sex.

I had an ultrasound a few weeks ago (not in depth) and my Dr. said my placenta was low, but hopefully it will move up. I hope to hear good news about that.

I will let everyone know the outcome on Monday!!

HeatherMak - November 4th, 2006 9:45 PM

Donovansmommy -

What an exciting day!! We are very anxious to hear about your u/s on Monday so please give us an update when you can Monday!!

Ginamarie -

Yes, my little miracle will be one on Friday!! We are so excited!! Actually, we'd like to have a GIGANTIC party, but it's almost a sacred day for us, kind of on par with his Dedication Ceremony, so we've decided just family and friends and a little party surrounded by people who prayed for his entrance into this world. We've got a Curious George cake for us, then a little cake shaped like a banana for him with TONS of frosting - and a shower curtain to go under the high chair! HAHA!! We've asked for no gifts since he's just one...he really won't get it. We asked for people to donate to a walk I did today for Cincinnati Children's Hospital rather than buy him a gift...there are some families who have a miracle baby and that baby may not be as well as our sweet miracle...so spend the money where it could be better used. I'm hoping to have good party pix to post next weekend!! Though, it could be a while, I'm still sifting through Halloween!! Thanks for asking, you're so sweet. I still cry when I think about the fact that he will be ONE...and I really do get to keep him!!! I hope I can share in the celebration of your little miracle's first birthday soon!!! How are you feeling??
