In 2005 my husband and I conceived our son, Christopher, thru at-home IUI and we're trying again!

I've started a support group for couples who are doing, or are interested in doing, IUI at home and I am writing a book with Dr. Zavos of the Home Fertility Network.

I am more than happy to answer any questions anyone may have and share any resources or information that may help you on your journey.

You can contact me by replying here or by visiting my website at http://www.babyinabasket.

Dear Dr. Kerr,

I am interested in getting more info re this subject. I have been TTC for 10 years. How does someone start Home IUI? I am currently living in Greece so I dont know if all these products are found here.

Thanks
Diana

Hi Diana!!

If you are in Greece, the very best resource I can recommend to you is Dr. Panos Zavos. He is a contributor to Home Made Babies and is the only doctor I know of that can supply all the necessary supplies to do sperm wash, analysis and IUI at home. There are other suppliers but, for the most part, you either have to order large quantities or kind of piece everything together.

Dr. Zavos' website is http://www.zdlinc.com

Dr.Zavos does business in Greece so it would probably be the surest and easiest way to get supplies within the country. Try these links for Dr. Zavos: http://www.zdlinc.net/productcart/

]
or http://www.repromedin
ternational.com/zen/

For vaginal speculums, dry bath heater blocks (for keeping everything at body temp during sperm wash), gloves, saline, etc, just Google medical and lab supplies. I bought all the durable equipment like heater, microscope and centrifuge from online auction sites.

Zavos labs supplies a complete at-home IUI kit including the swim up chamber for sperm wash, syringe and IUI catheter. You would also need the sperm prep solution to do the sperm wash, sterile saline and sterile gloves for the IUI. If you choose to do a sperm count you would need a counting chamber or a microscope and hemocytometer. For analysis, you can send the sample to a lab (Zavos does this, as do several other labs. See the resources link on my website at http://www.babyinabasket.net/HomeMa
deBabies/HomeMadeBabies_Resources)
or do it yourself with a staining kit and microscope. For instructions on doing the analysis I recommend the book Practical Laboratory Andology which you can find on Amazon. com or any other online bookstore.

I'd love to hear more of your story and what brought you to explore at-home treatment. Feel free to email me.

Dear Dr. Kerr,

Thank you so much for taking the time to reply to my post.

The whole procedure really sounds complicated. There are so many different things to get to ensure that it is done properly.

IUI in Greece costs about Euro 300 per cycle that is without stm. Which I think is not that bad considering all that has to be bought to do IUI at home, it will probably be the same cost.

I was interested in doing IUI at home as I feel very uncomfortable at the clinics and it seems so cold and impersonal, which of course has an effect on my psycholocial side of TTC which doesnt help in conceiving. I will do my research and look into Dr. Zervos site etc.

I thank you again for you time and will update you on anything new.

Diana

Hi there. I have been trying to conceive my first child with my Husband for over 7 years, with No success! We are thinking about doing IUI, insurance doesn't cover and it can be expensive. We don't have many issues, Hubby has low motility, and I am regualar with a 28 day cycle. It just hasn't happened.. I Would like more information on this please. I have found a few other websites, not a whole lot of success. Thank you!!!

This post is so enlightining, I have had a tubal for 18 years and I am 43 years old. I was recently re-married and my husband and I want to have a child together. I get my mentrual regularly and I have been taking supplements to produce healthy eggs. However the costs for having the tubal reversal aren't that bad but I have been discouraged by a doctor. Can I achieve the same success as you with at home insemination? I appreciate any information you can provide.
