I have the same MTHFR C677T homozygous.

I also lost 2 babies, the last one last march at 4 months.
I am now 4 months pg again, and doing fine I do the Lovenox injections once a day and take extra folate and B6, and B12. I have wkly U/S and all looks good. This one is also a boy. I wish you the best I know how hard it is, I also lost my daughter at 15 mths from Leukemia, that pregnancy was perfect no problems, just the last two. Now here I am my 4th pregnancy, I am so nervous, but Im getting there. I hope this gives you some hope, IT CAN BE DONE! My prayers are with you.

DK I have had 2 miscarriages, they didnt' find out till after the first miscarriage. I am also homo for MTHFR mutation, along with Factor II hetro mutation. My first loss I was almost 10 weeks and I just recently miscarried last week at 4 weeks. I am taking like Marla, folic acid, VB-6 and BB-12 you usually get a prescripiton I take Folbee, plus baby asprin and prenatal even if you aren't pregnant. As the doctor has told me you can also miscarry early from chromosome problems, when the baby is forming pieces of the puzzle aren't there and you miscarry. I talked to my doctor and yes miscarrying is a result from the mutation, but so are so many things. Just like Marla and many others with our problem get pregnant and take levonox and are fine. I too worry about getting pregnant and how many miscarriages will I have and will I ever carry to term. this is a great site to express your feelings because alot of woman are in your situation. There is hope!!

I was just in search of some information and found this forum. Reading your responses makes me nervous. I have one son 31/2 and am now 12 wks preg with my second (unplanned) preg. My doctor just informed me of the mutation and is sending me to a specialist. You all seem so informed. What advice can you offer. I am going this Thursday, what can I expect? I read all this stuff about NTD and Spina Bifida etc what exactly are the risks?

I am sorry but what is this c677t mutation?
I had my second miscarriage yesterday and i am trying to find out what tests i should ask for before trying to get pregnant again. I am seeing my GP on Wednesday. She is going to do blood tests to try and find out why this is happening. Should i ask for anything in particular?
I actually thought this pregnancy was different to the last. I had an early scan on Friday and a blood tests on the Thursday before. The nurse called to say that my HCG levels had dropped drastically and that i had had a miscarriage. Knowing that i had only had the one blood test that she had no two readings to go by. I told her that i had only had one test and asked what was she going by. She started to tell me the date of the last miscarriage and then realised that, she said "oh the HCG level is very low you have had a miscarriage" i didn't even have spotting, bleeding or any pain. I was so distraught i called my GP. She was not impressed with this at all.
I then started to miscarry on Saturday. My boyfriend spoke to a different nurse (also at the early pregnancy unit) this nurse said that the other should not have said that to me. Sorry this is a long story but i am so gutted. None of my friends have been through a miscarriage so they don't understand.
What tests does anyone recommend?? Any advice will be greatly appreciated. Also i am thinking about reporting this nurse so she will think twice before she does this to anyone else.
What should i do?

Fi,

You need to have a complete clotting profile done. There are several tests they will have to do and it requires several vials of blood, but you must ask that your doctor do a complete clotting profile. COMPLETE!

Now, if you don't get the care you ask for, FIND ANOTHER DOCTOR! You should never be treated like you were...would you accept that kind of treatment from a car mechanic? NO! Why accept it from a doctor or their staff??

The best doctor to see for any kind of help with this is an endocrinologist. It may be expensive, but what is it worth to you? Your health insurance will cover some of it, but not all of it, so make payments if you have to and get some help!

I have the mutation, and I am 10 weeks pregnant. I am on Lovenox twice a day, 5 mg of Folic Acid and 2 Foltx (b complex vitamins). I see my endocrinologist once a month to assure the pregnancy is going smoothly, and I see my OB and give him the report. The endocrinologist also found my PCOS as well as myriad other hormone issues, which are all being treated to assure a healthy pregnancy.

This is my first pregnancy, and it is a lot of work...not work I feel I would be willing to do again....but I am grateful for all the information I have...information I would not have had if it weren't for my endocrinologist finding the clotting factor.

Heather, i can't begin to tell you how greatful i am for your reply.
I am going to see my GP this afternoon. She is very good.
Oh, as for the nurse, yes i have spoken to another nurse at the same clinic. She was lovely and is going to be speaking to the rude one. I really would hate for anyone else to be dealt with like that.
I am looking forward now to getting this all sorted out and to try again. I am a nanny so being around the kids keeps me happy and positive.
I have a list of tests i want done now....thank you.
I am glad you have great doctors and are going well with your pregnancy.
I can't believe for years we all try not to get pregnant and when you want it to happen..well!
Thank you very much again. Your advice has reasured me to be strong and ask for all of the tests.

Hi! I have been researching MTHFR and came across this message board. I hope I can get some help and support. First I will give you a little info. on my history.

I had no problems getting pg. with my oldest daughter. I also had a very normal and healthy pregnancy. When we decided to ttc #2 it wasn't as easy. I went through many years of infertililty. I had a hard time finding a dr. who would help me. Well, I finally found a dr. who was understanding and supportive. I was put on 50 mg. of clomid. I got pg. on my first cycle of clomid. But, it ended very quickly. I wasn't quite 6 wks. yet. The DR. did a few tests and found out that my prog. levels drop when on clomid. So, I was given a prescription for prog. troches and was put back on the clomid. This time it took 2 cycles and I was pg. again. Sadly, this pregnancy ended at 5 wks. By this time I was such an emotional wreck. I was really thinking about giving up on trying again. Then the DR. called and said I tested + for the mthfr mutation (heterz.). I was to continue taking the clomid, prog., and prenatal vit. But, also add a low dose aspirin everyday and glucophage 3 times a day (I have PCOS). I was really nervous about it, but gave it a try. This time I was able to get pg. on my first cycle of clomid. I am happy to say that this pregnancy went very smoothly and I now have another beautiful girl. My dh and I decided after all we have been through we would ttc #3 when the baby was a year old. The baby turned a year in Feb. I continued taking my prenatal vit. and low dose aspirin through out the year. In March I started taking clomid, Prog. (2 days after O), and glucophage. Well, I became pg. again. But, this pregnancy ended at 4 1/2 wks. I was upset, but I am handling it much better then I did my other 2 mscs.

But, I am left with a lot of questions. Do you think maybe the aspirin was not enough this time? I have been doing a lot of research and have read about many pg. women with mthfr being on heperin (sp???). On the posts I have read here leperon(sp???) was used. What is the difference? Has there been great success with these drugs? I know these drugs are injected. Was it hard getting used to giving yourself shots everyday? I am really nervous about it. But, will try anything to prevent having another msc. I have a follow up appoint on May 10 and will ask the DR. about these drugs.

Any information about mthfr would be greatly appreciated.

11 years ago I was pregnant with a baby that had anencephaly. After the pregnancy I took genetic tests and they told me everything was normal. About 6 months later I get pregnant again and have a healty boy. Since then I have had a 4 month old baby die in my stomach, and 5 other miscarriages.

After my last miscarriage in Sept 2004 I took another genetic test and just recently I found out that I have MTHFR gene. I am 6 weeks pregnant and cramping and spotting. I pray that I do not lose this one! I was told to take a baby aspirin and continue to take Folic Acid. No one told me to take and B Vitamins but luckily I started back taking them about a month ago.

I know for a fact that you CAN have a normal pregnancy with this disorder you just have to listen to your doctor. After all these years of trying to conceive I finally know why I've had miscarriages in the past. As long as you know what's going on you should be able to conceive. Good Luck to You! ;D

My dr. told me if they had tested for this 10 yrs ago they wouldn't have found it. I'm sorry you've had som many losses, but I'm glad you might have an answer.

The MTHFR is all new to me. I don' know what questions to ask my Dr. With all the blood work that the ob does during pregnancy. Why did I have to suffer through 2 miscarriges and my last one at 13 weeks where they kept calling it a tear in the placenta/ large blood clot? Could they have given me anything at the Hospital after seeing the clot? I bled buckets of blood 1 week prior to the loss, My Dr said well, if you are going to miscarry you just are. They blew off the amount of blood loss. The baby was ok with a heartbeat all the way until it came out. I am so sad.
Should I be taking these vitamins daily for the rest of my life? My Dr said only if I get pregnant again. I have no faith in this office now. My 2nd son was very small and I had an ultrasound done by a perinatologist every 2 weeks. He never mentioned any of these possibilities with me. Instead he scared us to death and made us prepare for a Downs baby with out any other red flags. They never once took blood.
Who should of known more? My OB? The specialist?
I want answers so I can move on with my life . I am only 2 weeks post miscarrige and I am just bittler along with my saddness.
This site is wonderful I have been reading everyones posts for hours now.
If anyone has any answers I would love to hear them

First of all, I am so sorry for your loss. I am also 2 wks. post msc. So, I feel your pain. I am also sorry that the dr. was not more sensitive to your feelings and needs. This must have been awful for you.

I am unsure if there was anything that could have been done about the clot. This is all kind of new to me also. I believe that heparin and lovenox prevents clots from forming. If you are going to ttc again, you may want to ask your doctor about using heparin or lovenox.

Yes you should be taking vitimans for life. My doctor had me on prenatal vit. even when I wasn't ttc. I also have to take a daily low dose aspirn for life. Has your doctor mentioned this? Not only does mthfr cause msc. it also puts you at high risk for heart attack and stroke. You may also want to ask about seeing a hematologist (blood doctor). If you find a good hematologist he/she might better explain mthfr and will probably run further tests. Unfortunately I didn't have a very good hematologist and left the office having more questions then I did when I got there. I am now in the process of finding a different hematologist.

Could you find a different doctor to go to? I went through many insensitive doctors while struggling through infertility. I was finally referred by a close friend to an excellent doctor.

Hi. My doctor just called me to advise they discovered I have this C667T mutation in addition to my PCOS. He tried to explain it but I am still a bit confused as to what it is.

I have had 2 miscarriages - the first at 8 wks - no bleeding - just no heartbeat on my first ultrasound. The second at 11 wks. I was on gluccophage 3x daily & then put on clomid before I was able to get pregnant both times. He is putting me on 4Mg of Folic acid now for the C667T but said he discussed my case with several fertility specialists who do not think this mutation is really the cause of my miscarriages.

Any information would be appreciated. My husband & I are planning to try again but I am terrified of having & surviving another miscarriage.

I am so sorry for your losses. I also have MTHFR. But, I am unsure of the type. I am heterozygous (sp??). Do you know if you are homo or hetero.? When I asked my dr. if the MTHFR was the cause of my miscarriages he said yes. I was put on daily aspirin right away and I was able to give birth to a healthy baby girl.

I also have pcos and am on glucophage 3 times daily. I also have to take clomid to get pg. For some reason when I am on clomid my prog. levels drop, so I also have to take prog.

I am sorry that your doctors don't believe that mthfr is the cause of your msc. Did they explain why? Could you get a second opinion? Mthfr can be very confusing and doctors have conflicting views on it.

HI, I just found your site. I just found out I am positive for 1 copy of the C677T mutation but I do not know if it's homo or hetero. What is the difference?
I had a miscarriage 2.5 yrs ago, and now have Ashermans from the D&C. We are ttc presently, so I told my dr. I wanted to get the thrombophilia profile just to check. How do you find out if it's homo or hetero? My lab slip just says "positive" Thanks for your help. Theresa

My cousin just found out that she has the MTHFR mutation after a miscarriage at 6 months. But, this was her third pregnancy and her first two were normal. I don't know if she is homozygous or hetero. But there is hope, just find a good doctor and get plenty of B vitamins.

Thank you. My OB was not that familiar with C677T so he checked with a fertility specialists who said that. At this point, it is the only explanation of why I miscarried that he could come up with. I remember him telling me a bunch of technical stuff but do not know if I am homozygosity or heterzygosity.

I've done a lot of research since he called and have found most Dr's either believe it or they don't -- no middle ground. They did a DNA test on my second fetus and it was normal. Something happened within days of us seeing the heartbeat that caused the miscarriage. At this point, I have to believe it is somehow related.

I'm starting on clomid next month just to start ovulating again & he wants to monitor me. He didn't put me on aspirin but there is aspirin in my headache/migraine medicine so I get it almost daily anyway. He plans to put me on progesterone when I do get pregnant just in case that was the cause. Who knows. I'm just trying to stay positive and maybe one day I will have a baby.
