Dear Dr. Smith,

How many time can you do IVF and/or IUI?

When do you call it quits?

I am asking this question, mainly from a point
of long term safety for the woman from the exposure of
these drug.

There is no evidence to suggest that FSH/LH medications cause problems. You do not use up your eggs faster by using them and you do not put yourself at risk by using them. After all, these are the same homones that circulate in your body every month - just more of them.

As to when do you call it quits - 3 unsucessful IUI's, then move on to IVF. After 3 unsucessful IVF's, quit or move on to donor egg/sperm or both.

One more question:
I never had painful period before...but right after 2 failed ivf attemps, I experienced painful period(lower back pain)lately...is there anything I need to worry about? Is it something to do with IVF??
