Hello,

I am 4 weeks pregnant via ivf and so far my hcg is doubling but it is early days. I cannot help but be anxious and at night it is worse, I just cannot relax, sometimes I am even convinced that I am making my uterus contract. What I need to know is whether my stress can affect the embryo at this stage - I need to relax my mind about this pregnancy. Thanks.

No one is sure, from a scientific point of view, how much stress pays a part in miscarriage. We've all heard stories that support the idea that too much stress can cause a miscarriage - but who really knows? You may want to try Yoga, Tai Chi, TM or some other type of "natural" relaxation technique. If that doesn't work, ask your OB about anti-anxiety medication that may be taken during pregnancy.
