Dear obsessive worrier. You are in good company on this board. Everyone here worries obsessively - even me.
You are correct that frozen-thaw sperm are prefectly adequate for IVF (as opposed for IUI). The reason for this is that frozen-thawed sperm do not have a long life span and don't hang around long enough to fertilize the eggs in an IUI. Long survival is not necessary in IVF since the sperm are placed in close proximity to the egg and fertilization occurs within about 1-3 hours after insemination. That being said, many programs perform ICSI with frozen-thawed sperm just to be on the safe side.
The sperm can be frozen indefinately. Just pop them in the microwave using the thaw setting and voilla! Good as new. Just kidding. They do not experience "freezer burn". I've used 20 year old frozen sperm and they were just fine. No worries. No, I mean it. No worries.
