I have increased prolactin level. I produce a milky discharge from my breast. I was wondering how exactly this effects my fertility? What exactly does it do to cause me to be infertile?

Elevated prolactin is a result of an increased # or an enlargement of the existing # of prolactin-secreting cells in the pituitary. Your doctor may want to send you for an MRI of the sella ( where the pituitary sits)to see if there is an adenoma (small tumor). This and the galactorrhea (the milky discharge) can usually be treated medically with tablets. Hyperprolactinemia may adversely affect the luteal phase of your cycle so that the uterine lining (endometrium) cannot allow implantation to occur. Treatment can correct this problem.

Thank you very much for taking the time to answer my question. Just one more thing... so this means that my egg could be get fertilized but it just does not get implanted ?

Yes or if implantation is initiated, it may not continue because of the luteal phase disruption caused by the elevated Prolactin. Get the galactorrhea checked out. If the Prl level is not very elevated then there are other reasons for your problem conceiving.
