Do doctors have a good idea after transfer as to who will be successful and who won't? The stats on success rates are so general - I guess they are an average in a why - so do doctors look at some patients and think "they have a 10% chance and they have an 80% chance". It is such an expensive process it would be nice if doctors gave you more of an idea of your chances based on you and your history.

Thanks,
Judy

There are so many factors that come into play during each individual cycle, it is impossible to accurately predict a patient's chance of success beyond a rough guess based on their age and the "quality" of the embryos transferred. Biology and medicine are not exact sciences. These areas of science deal in probabilities, not hard facts (like, say, physics or chemistry). Doctors walk the fine line between being discouraging, encouraging and being overly optimistic. That's the best we can do.
