Dr. Smith,

We did our 1st ICSI 12 days ago and was wondering if you had an opinion about our chances for this cycle.

Me: 31 yrs, normal tests, 25% ASA
DH: 32 yrs, 21% morphology, 25% HDS, 12% DFI

On day 3 we had 4 good embryos. We transferred 1 "perfect" 8-cell embryo and 1 9-cell embryo with minimal fragmentation. My lining was 11mm with triple stripe the day of HCG. The ET went smoothly. My RE gave us a 50% chance of success with 30% chance for twins.

Our remaining 2 embryos were both 7-cell with minimal fragmentation. We were told that both of the remaining embryos made it to blastocysts and were frozen.

Given that our remaining embryos made it to blastocyst, does this make it more likely that the 2 embryos transferred did as well (possibley increasing our chances above 50%)?

If this cycle does not work, what do you think would be our chances with a frozen transfer of the 2 blasts? My RE quotes an 80-90% survival rate for thawed blastocysts.

I'd say your chances are good from the Day 3 fresh embryo transfer. I don't know if I'd go as high as 50%, but pretty close. Yes, the fact that the remaining embryos made it to the blastocyst stage is a good sign, but every embryo is unique and has a different developmental capacity. If the embryos survive the thaw (and they should), I'd say there is approximately a 40% chance of success for the FET.
